Anticipated Vacancy Physical Therapist (Schools)Extended School YearLOCATION(S): Resilience AcademyDistinguishing Features Of The ClassThis is professional work involving responsibility for physical therapy casework in a program designed tomeet the needs of selected individuals in the school population. The incumbent evaluates, plans andprovides physical therapy treatment to students in accordance with a referral from a physician or from areview committee. Progress is discussed with the program coordinator, teachers and parents. The work isperformed under the general supervision of a higher-level administrator, doctor, or program coordinator.Supervision may be exercised over certified physical therapy assistants or other staff.Typical Work Activities Performs initial screening, evaluation and consultation for students referred to the program; Develops school based goals, treatment objectives and therapeutic activities and tasks to beincorporated into the student's individualized education plan; Implements pediatric physical therapy or oversees activities implemented by therapy assistants,providing supervision and guidance as necessary; Maintains written case notes and other written documentation as required by school policy or bystate law; Attends and participates in staff conferences on students needs and progress; Communicates with teachers, classroom support staff, physicians and other staff with studentcontact to ascertain progress or additional needs; Develops home based programs where appropriate; Assesses and makes recommendations regarding adaptive and orthotic equipment needs andmonitors equipment status; Maintains daily time sheets and medicaid statistic sheets as appropriate; Conducts regular staff meetings with therapy assistants to review student progress and to adjustgoals and activities as necessary; Does related work as required.CharacteristicsFULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONALThorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and objectives of physical therapy, especially as theyapply to a pediatric caseload; good knowledge of physical therapy equipment and apparatus; goodknowledge of pathological conditions and socio-economic factors affecting a patients disabilities;working knowledge of the terminology and practices of modern social casework; ability to supervise thework of others; ability to relate sympathetically to a potentially difficult client population; ability tocommunicate, both orally and in writing; organizational ability; enthusiasm; initiative; resourcefulness;good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.Minimum QualificationsLicensed and currently registered by the New York State Education Department as a Physical Therapist.Special RequirementEligibility for a New York State Motor Vehicle Operator's license at time of application, and possessionof said license at time of appointment.GRADE LEVEL: All.START DATE: July 6, 2026 August 14, 2026 (Extended School Year)
