Estimator - Mid-level

The Estimator will support and work with preconstruction/business development staff in the review of project plans, requirements, and specifications. The Estimator is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of estimates for jobs to be bid, including preparation, supervision of take offs, and coordination and/or supervisions of other estimators & engineers. The Estimator shall have extensive knowledge of construction means, methods, costs, engineering, and industry principles.ResponsibilitiesReview project plans, requirements, and specificationsDetermine labor and equipment costsPrepare accurate quantity takeoffs and materials pricing – discuss and propose the most proper means and methodReview and understand all bid documents and assess project risksUnderstand project logistics and project schedulePrepare bid packages – compare and analyze competitive subcontractor and supplier bidsReview quotes and estimates with the Project Management TeamPrepare estimates at different levels of completion (conceptual, Schematic, DD, CD, etc.)Perform certain post-bid buyoutsPerform pre-construction duties and meetings with clients, owners, suppliers, and JV partnersPerform other related duties as required and assignedQualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering or Architecture5+ years’ experience estimating heavy civil projectsAdvanced computer skills with estimating software – HCSS Heavy BidEffective presentation skillsAdvanced computers skills with MS OfficeKnowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, Carlson, InRoads or Geopak desirableKnowledge of construction costs and engineering principlesFamiliarity of all aspects of horizontal and infrastructure projectsWell organized, flexible, detail oriented, and multi-taskedPrioritize work load and consistently meet deadlines while constantly changing tasks and demandsAbility to work with other engineers and estimators and be part of a teamExcellent written an oral communicator
