Mechanical Engineer
We are seeking a Process Modeling Engineer for one year in Corning, NY. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in solid mechanics and numerical modeling, along with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams in a technical, research-driven environment. The duration of this opportunity is for one year in Corning, NY 100% onsite in a technical or manufacturing facilityCollaboration with globally distributed teams, including engineering, research, and commercial partnersOpportunity for limited travel (up to ~10%)Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and apply analytical and numerical models to improve process performance and product qualityUse solid mechanics principles to evaluate and predict: Stress and deformationThermal effects and residual stressMaterial behavior under varying process conditionsBuild and simulate models for process cycles, including heating and cooling scenariosAnalyze and optimize contact, fixturing, and handling conditions to reduce variability and riskEvaluate material and coating performance, including stress and potential failure mechanismsConduct data analysis and validate models through experimental methodsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development and problem-solvingPrepare technical documentation, including reports, presentations, and recommendationsQualificationsMaster's degree in mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of experience, ORPhD in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related fieldRequired SkillsStrong foundation in solid mechanics and material behaviorExperience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools (e.g., Abaqus, Ansys, or similar)Ability to translate complex problems into mathematical and computational modelsStrong programming and analytical skills to support modeling and simulationsExperience designing experiments and validating model resultsStrong problem-solving and critical thinking abilitiesPreferred QualificationsExperience with open-source FEA toolsKnowledge of thin film or coating mechanicsExperience with process or product engineering environmentsFamiliarity with materials testing techniquesExperience working with diverse materials such as polymers or similar systemsAdditional InformationContract-based role with potential for extension or long-term opportunity based on performance and business needsOpen to candidates willing to relocate at their own expense
