This role will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for and owning significant platform capabilities, driving architectural decisions, and establishing technical standards that enable our entire engineering organization. You'll work on transformational initiatives including automation, deployment frameworks, and developer workflows that accelerate software delivery across the organization, while mentoring other engineers and ensuring our technology foundation scales with business growth.We can only consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our Charlotte, NC office.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership & Platform StrategyDefine and drive the technical roadmap for Developer Experience and Cloud Platform Engineering initiativesEstablish standards, patterns, and best practices for CI/CD, infrastructure automation, deployment pipelines, and developer toolingLead architecture decisions for cloud-native deployment platforms and internal developer platformsShape platform strategy through both written specifications and hands-on code implementationDrive modernization efforts across GitHub workflows, deployment automation, and infrastructure-as-code practicesServe as a technical escalation point for complex platform reliability, scalability, and operational issuesMentor engineers and help raise the overall engineering maturity of the organizationDeveloper Experience & Productivity:Design and implement scalable developer workflows that improve engineering velocity and reliabilityLead initiatives around ephemeral test environments and self-service development infrastructureImprove onboarding, local development, testing, deployment, and observability experiences for engineering teamsPartner with engineering teams to identify workflow bottlenecks and automate repetitive operational tasksDrive adoption of platform capabilities through documentation, enablement, technical guidance, and hands-on code implementationEvaluate, use and integrate AI-assisted development tooling and workflow automation opportunitiesCollaboration & Enablement:Partner closely and collaborate with application & platform engineering, architecture, product, infrastructure, security, and operations teamsTranslate business and organizational goals into scalable technical platform capabilitiesInfluence engineering direction through technical leadership and strong communicationParticipate in strategic planning and investment prioritization for engineering initiativesSupport incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts for platform servicesKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesDeep experience designing and operating cloud-native platforms and developer infrastructureStrong expertise with Azure DevOps / GitHub CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using Terraform / AnsibleExperience with deploying apps/microservices on Kubernetes/Docker, container orchestration, and modern cloud infrastructure platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)Strong understanding of software engineering lifecycle, release engineering, and DevOps principlesExperience building scalable internal platforms, local development, and self-service engineering capabilitiesStrong understanding of distributed systems, observability, reliability engineering, and operational excellenceExperience supporting multi-language engineering ecosystems (Java, .NET, Python, JavaScript, etc.)Familiarity with GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps pipelines and modern source control workflowsExperience implementing security best practices within platform engineering environmentsStrong communication and technical leadership skills with the ability to influence across teamsExperience evaluating and integrating AI-enabled engineering productivity tooling is a plusFinancial services or regulated industry experience preferredQualifications & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)15+ years of software/platform engineering experience with increasing technical leadership responsibilitiesProven experience leading complex platform engineering or developer productivity initiativesExperience designing and operating cloud-native infrastructure at enterprise scaleExperience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across multiple teamsStrong hands-on engineering background with ability to contribute directly to implementation workExperience working within Agile/Scrum environments and cross-functional engineering organizationsWhy Join AssetMark?Lead and drive build foundational platform components that enables innovation, agility, and developer productivity across the entire product portfolioWork with modern cloud-native technologies and enterprise-scale architectureLearn wealth management domain while developing deep platform engineering expertiseCollaborate with experienced platform architects and engineering leadersClear growth path toward senior platform engineering and architecture rolesAssetMark values diversity of thought and background and is committed to building an inclusive workplace. This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US to be considered.
