Description
General Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Cable Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for Installing and routing Cat6 and coaxial cables through walls, ceilings, conduit, and other pathways, Terminating cables using appropriate connectors, mounting antennas and various infrastructure hardware, and ensuring high-quality service and customer satisfaction. This role requires strong communication skills and proficient problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Installation
Installing and routing Cat6 and coaxial cables through walls, ceilings, conduit, and other pathways.
Terminating cables using appropriate connectors (e.g., RJ45 for Cat6, F-connectors for coaxial).
Installing and configuring low voltage equipment such as modems, routers, cable boxes, and security cameras.
Installing support structures, including racks, j-hooks, and cable trays, to ensure neat and organized cabling.
Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical diagrams, and work orders to guide installations.
Maintenance and Repair
Inspecting cable systems to diagnose and resolve issues like weak signals or connectivity problems.
Troubleshooting network and equipment issues to restore service functionality.
Repairing damaged cables or connectors and replacing faulty equipment.
Performing routine maintenance checks to ensure system longevity and performance.
Customer Service
Providing exceptional customer service, including explaining installation processes and addressing customer inquiries and concerns.
Documentation
Maintaining accurate records of installations, repairs, test results, and inventory.
Completing paperwork such as timesheets, checklists, and service orders accurately and on time.
Compliance & Safety
Adhering to industry standards and safety regulations
Ensuring proper grounding for equipment and cables.
Performing fire-stopping procedures when required.
Requirements
Physical Demands
Ability to work at heights (e.g., on ladders and Lifts) and in confined spaces.
Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 75 lbs).
Ability to pass a background check and drug test
Active driver's license
Soft Skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve cable and network issues.
Attention to detail and precision in performing tasks and installations.
Commitment to safety and adherence to industry regulations.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Previous experience as a Cable Technician or in a related field is often preferred.
Relevant certifications (e.g., BICSI, CompTIA Network+) are highly valued but not required
