Job DescriptionOur OpportunityChewy is seeking a Software Development Manager – SCADA to join our Fulfillment Process Automation organization. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and support of Ignition-based SCADA solutions that improve visibility, reliability, and performance across Chewy’s fulfillment network. You will work on systems that directly impact operational uptime, safety, and throughput by connecting industrial controls, edge devices, and operational data into scalable SCADA platforms, including cloud-enabled infrastructure in AWS.As the leader of a small SCADA engineering team, you will provide both technical direction and people leadership, including direct management of two software engineers. You will serve as a subject matter expert for SCADA platforms while partnering closely with operations, maintenance, controls, and engineering stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure, and maintainable solutions that improve fulfillment performance.This role is ideal for a technical leader who can solve complex problems with simple, effective solutions. The right candidate thinks creatively, approaches challenges from multiple angles, and builds with scalability, maintainability, and operational reliability in mind. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across industrial controls, software development, Ignition application development, and system integration, translating data from PLCs and edge systems into clear, actionable operational visibility across on-premises and AWS-hosted environments.What You’ll DoLead and manage a SCADA software engineering team, including coaching, development, and performance management for two engineersDesign, develop, and support Ignition-based SCADA systems used in fulfillment center operationsBuild and maintain SCADA applications that provide real-time performance visibility, alarming, dashboards, and OEE metricsOwn key SCADA applications, integrations, and system components, ensuring they are reliable, maintainable, and scalableDrive technical execution, delivery, prioritization, and support for SCADA initiatives across the fulfillment networkProvide hands-on technical leadership through design reviews, architecture guidance, problem solving, and engineering best practicesPartner with operations, maintenance, controls, and engineering teams to understand business needs and translate them into practical technical solutionsDesign and support integrations from PLCs and edge devices into SCADA and downstream enterprise systemsWork with industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, and BACnetGuide development of Ignition Perspective applications, including HMI screens, reusable components, and operational dashboardsSupport reporting and visualization needs for operational and engineering stakeholdersContribute to standardized SCADA design patterns, development practices, and reusable solutions across multiple facilitiesSupport on-premises and cloud-hosted SCADA environments, including AWS-based infrastructure components that enable SCADA workloadsHelp improve SCADA security, access control, operational reliability, and data governance practicesLead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and production support efforts for SCADA systemsParticipate in field commissioning, system startup, and operational issue resolution as neededBalance delivery of new features and enhancements with long-term system stability and supportabilityContribute to documentation, runbooks, and knowledge sharing across the teamCommunicate project status, technical risks, trade-offs, and priorities to stakeholders and leadershipWhat You’ll NeedMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience5+ years of experience in software engineering, industrial automation, SCADA, or a related technical field2+ years of experience leading projects, mentoring engineers, or managing technical teamsHands-on experience designing, developing, and supporting SCADA applications, preferably using IgnitionStrong understanding of industrial automation systems, including experience integrating with PLCs, edge devices, and plant-floor systemsExperience with industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, BACnet, or similarExperience building visualization layers such as HMI screens, dashboards, and alarming systemsExperience supporting production systems with a focus on reliability, troubleshooting, and root cause analysisWorking knowledge of cloud and infrastructure concepts, preferably in AWSStrong software engineering fundamentals, including application design, testing, version control, and maintainable coding practicesDemonstrated ability to lead technical work, influence design decisions, and guide engineers through delivery and supportStrong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and operational teamsPreferred QualificationsExperience in fulfillment, logistics, manufacturing, or other highly automated operational environmentsExperience in leading or directly managing software engineersExperience implementing or supporting OEE metrics, event models, or operational performance reportingExperience with enterprise system integrations and data modelingFamiliarity with SCADA cybersecurity principles and best practicesExperience supporting distributed systems deployed across multiple sitesExperience balancing people leadership with hands-on technical contribution in a fast-paced environmentExperience working in highly automated fulfillment or distribution environmentsExperience building standardized solutions that can scale across multiple facilitiesExperience collaborating closely with operations, maintenance, and controls stakeholdersThe hourly range for this role is $59.85 -
