Prevention Specialist/Advocate
Status: non-exempt
Reports to: Director of Crisis Services
Hired by the Executive Director.
Key responsibility: the providing of services to non-resident clients in Titus County for case management in regard to sexual assault, domestic violence, and to engage the community in education services that can prevent DV or SA through awareness.
Key Responsibility Areas:
Sensitivity to varying cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds, attitudes and languages.
An ability to work as a team member, providing both support and constructive feedback in interpersonal interactions.
Provide crisis intervention; translation when needed; individual client goal setting.
Coordinate with other staff and agencies to deliver services such as: assistance with employment search, transportation, educational counseling, medical appointments, and housing locations, credit repair, connection with mainstream benefits and childcare location.
Follow-up after the family leaves the shelter or enters housing at minimum of every three months.
Case management includes: regularly contacting clients, initial intake and assessment, documentation, goal planning, referral sources, educational and peer-to-peer counseling, housing, financial aid, job training, groups, legal, medical, evaluations of program, and crime victim compensation application.
Assist the Housing applications when needed.
On-call support for sexual assault/domestic violence.
Provide information and referrals, advocacy and support to all clients who seek assistance at the office by telephone and in person.
Assist with computer entry of data tracking, securing data for entry.
Assist with PSA's for media for newspapers, radio and TV about victim services and rights when needed.
Follow ethical guidelines and considerations established by the Center and adhering to confidentiality.
Develop curriculum/webinars/videos for DV or SA related topics and implement curriculum as requested.
Take and send images of SAFE-T’s community involvement programs while adhering to confidentiality.
Completing client intake fully while answering the phones and keeping track of time spent.
Staying knowledgeable and up-to-date about SAFE-T services which might require traveling to training events.
Find and implement education programs at local schools or other organization.
Spread awareness about SAFE-T, DV, SA, Stalking, Bullying, the 24/7 Hotline, the Shelter or related topics throughout the county/counties by preparing and manning booths in high traffic areas, by going door-to-door, by passing out awareness materials to businesses, or by representing SAFE-T at events, as requested.
Create and run peer-to-peer counseling groups as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Crisis Services.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform any and all duties as requested by the Program Director.
EDUCATION: College degree or experience in working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent computer skills required; strong sense of teamwork and cooperation; excellent written oral communication skills; highly organized; mature attitude; able to handle stressful situations; prefer experience with domestic violence and sexual assault dynamics.
Ability to walk, bend, stoop, twist at waist, reach, climb stairs, lift and carry at least 25 lbs.
