The Associate will act as an individual contributor, advancing and completing workflows and processes, and developing or contributing to assessments, reports, analyses, business plans, market research, and other material related to assigned projects. The Associate will manage multiple projects simultaneously, organizing and prioritizing work accordingly.Functional Work Units:Partnerships: Source, evaluate, analyze, and develop new business opportunities including partnerships, joint ventures, spin‑offs, investments, mergers, and acquisitions. Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities and build a network of industry contacts.Commercialization: Evaluate the commercial potential of medical inventions and discoveries, develop technology sales and marketing plans, manage patents, negotiate licenses, and advise Mayo physicians and scientists on intellectual property matters.Technology Development: Assist in processing invention disclosures and patent applications, conduct prior art searches, draft patent documents, evaluate patent correspondence, perform right‑to‑use searches, conduct preliminary threat analyses, and educate staff on patent issues under legal oversight.Team assignments are aligned with one or more of the following work teams: Biopharmaceuticals, Medical Devices & Diagnostics, Health Information Technology/AI, Health Services & Robotics, or Investments. Typically, each team member is assigned to two work teams oriented toward specific projects.Qualifications Bachelor's degree required (or equivalent experience). An advanced degree (PhD, MD, JD) is preferred with one year of specific experience in business development, finance/venture capital, technology transfer, licensing, patents, partnerships, or related fields.One year experience directly related to technology licensing is required for the Commercialization Work Unit.In lieu of a degree, experience equal to the educational requirement will be considered (e.g., four years for a bachelor's, two years for a master's, two years for an advanced degree).Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, entrepreneurial in‑trapreneurial qualities, project‑management and time‑management abilities, and the capacity to manage several initiatives simultaneously while working independently.Additional Skills & Qualifications Depending on the specific assignment, additional preferred skills may include: business plan creation, due diligence, market research, marketing plan development, concept analysis, business model development, financial pro‑forma development, legal/regulatory assessment, product performance monitoring, technical sales, technology evaluation, negotiations, contract drafting, and evaluation of scientific and commercialization potential of cutting‑edge technologies. Experience with an academic medical center, mergers and acquisitions, financial modeling, and a Chartered Financial Analyst certification may also be considered.Compensation Detail $86,632 - $121,347 / yearBenefits Eligible YesSchedule Full TimeHours/Pay Period 80Schedule Details Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
