Are you living your life's work?Job Title: Summer Nurse ExternEntity: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania CedarDepartment: 5NW Medicine Unit w/ TelemetryLocation: 501 S. 54th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19143 (54th & Cedar) Hours: 0.9 FTE (36 hours per week), Rotating Shift (days/nights, every 3rd wknd)5NW is a medicine unit with telemetry monitoring capability throughout. We are a 25-bed unit with 21 private and 4 semi-private rooms. The population served are adult and geriatric with diagnosis including COPD, CHF, Sickle Cell Disease, CKD/AKI, DM, anemia, GI bleeding, wounds, stroke, sepsis, and many other complex issues.Summary:The Nurse Extern is a participant in an 8-week summer program for nursing students. The nurse extern program is designed to provide the nursing student with an opportunity to strengthen and reinforce his or her knowledge and skill in the practice of nursing under the direct supervision of a registered nurse preceptor and ease the transition of the realities of the work world. The nurse extern will follow his or her preceptor’s work schedule and will care for that nurse’s patients.Hours of Work:The nurse extern works a 36-hour week. The nurse extern follows the RN preceptor’s schedule, or their designee and educational sessions are scheduled as part of their workweek. The nurse extern is expected to attend the educational offerings.Minimum requirements:The qualified candidate must be a nursing student and have completed a minimum of one clinical nursing course in an accredited baccalaureate school of nursingYou must have current CPR certificationYou must have completed 1 clinical rotationYour GPA is 3.0 or greaterYou are available for the entire 8-week program.
