Portico has an amazing opportunity to join our team as a Property Accountant!Job SummaryThe Property Accountant is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial statements for an assigned portfolio of properties in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role manages the monthly and quarterly close process, prepares journal entries, reconciles balance sheet accounts, and supports acquisitions and dispositions while ensuring compliance with internal controls and reporting deadlines. Responsible for transition-related accounting activities associated with the onboarding and offboarding of properties, including coordination of financial data transfers, balance validations, and setup or closeout of accounting records. Supports smooth property transitions by ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely processing of transition accounting deliverables.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform monthly and quarterly financial close for assigned propertiesPrepare and post journal entries in the general ledgerReconcile balance sheet accounts and research variancesCompile and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAPAssist with accounting for acquisitions, purchase price allocations, and disposition entriesEnsure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting proceduresMeet all internal and external reporting deadlinesCommunicate financial results and respond to inquiries from property managers and executive leadershipSupport audit processes and provide requested documentationRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or related fieldMinimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience (public accounting or industry)Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standardsAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft ExcelExperience with journal entries, debits/credits, and general ledger structuresPreferred QualificationsExperience in real estate or property management accountingExperience with purchase price allocations and acquisition accountingCPA or CPA candidate preferredSkills & CompetenciesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsHigh attention to detail and accuracyAbility to manage multiple deadlines and prioritiesStrong organizational skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and in a team environmentCustomer service mindset when partnering with internal stakeholdersPhysical RequirementsAbility to sit for extended periods while working at a computerAbility to lift up to 30 pounds as neededRepetitive hand and wrist movements, including typingAdequate hearing and vision to perform job dutiesWork EnvironmentOffice-based role with moderate noise levelsOccasional overtime may be required during month-end closeTravel may be required for meetings or professional developmentOur Company is an equal Opportunity Employer.
