LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN
Purpose of JobThe purpose of this classification is to maintain security systems, inspect fire sprinklers, receive and log fire alarm calls and monitor for outages.Essential FunctionsMaintains security systems, performs routine and preventative maintenance on fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and other types of safety systems for the Public Library facilities.Tests fire alarms, fire detection systems, fire extinguishers, etc at Public Library Facilities on a monthly basis to detect maintenance and/or other problems.Works with Risk Management Department and Fire Marshal's office to inspect, identify and facilitate corrections of regulatory violations.Maintains knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocol, codes and procedures pertaining to fire/life safety.Investigates and identifies fire alarm and fire sprinkler system problems and develop plans to repair problems.Tests fire alarms, fire detection systems, fire extinguishers, etc at the Public Library facilities on a monthly basis to detect maintenance and other problems.Evaluates facilities/equipment to identify unsafe conditions and develops preventative and/or improvement maintenance schedules for all fire systems and their components.Supports outages, coordinates and works with contractors and other entities and responds and gives guidance to emergency personnel.Keeps up to date on all code changes, testing procedures and product knowledge.Reads and interprets drawings and technical manuals.Orders, picks-up and maintains stock of electrical and plumbing supplies.Required QualificationsEducation: High SchoolCertifications (Required After Hire): NICET Level 2 Fire Alarm Systems Certificate within one year of hire.Experience: 3 years experience in installation/repair/maintenance/operation of fire alarm equipment, security systems and related systems, or related workPreferences: NoneOther Requirements: Must possess and maintain valid TN driver's license.
