Art Teacher and Media Center Specialist
STATUS: Full-time (exempt)YEARLY TERM: 10 monthsSUPERVISOR: Academic Dean(s)DIRECT REPORTS: n/aSummary Job DescriptionThis full-time specialized role serves students from Kindergarten through 8th grade by fulfilling the school'smission within our community of students and families. The individual will split responsibilities betweenteaching visual arts and managing the daily operations of the Brookstone Media Center. This role focuses onfostering a welcoming, resource-rich environment, managing collections, and providing high-quality artinstruction across all grade levels.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesArt Instruction & Classroom Management● Teach art courses to Kindergarten through 8th-grade students on a weekly rotation.● Develop age-appropriate lesson plans and communicate learning goals for various artistic activities.● Select instructional resources and art media based on the developmental needs of elementary andmiddle school students.● Prepare the classroom, art supplies, and materials for weekly K-8 activities.● Regularly incorporate biblical integration and a Christian worldview naturally into art projects and arthistory.● Observe student progress and assign/grade class work and creative assignments.● Manage and guide student behavior across diverse age groups (K-8).Media Center Operations● Circulation: Manage the check-in/check-out process for books, periodicals, and hardware.● Collection Management: Shelve materials, assist in "weeding" old materials, and process newacquisitions (labeling, covering, and cataloging),ensuring that materials are in alignment with themission and philosophy of the school.● Student Support: Guide students in locating research materials and selecting age-appropriateliterature.● Lower School (K–4): Facilitate story time, introduce foundational research skills (Dewey DecimalSystem), and plan and deliver literacy, STEM, geography, cultural appreciation, or other enrichmentactivities.● Upper School (5–8): Teach media literacy and digital citizenship; provide "reader-advisory" services toencourage an appreciation for diverse literary genres.● Technical Tasks: Provide basic troubleshooting for media equipment (printers, tablets, AV gear) andassist with the maintenance of the online library database.Collaboration & Administration● Collaborate with faculty to promote cross-departmental learning and experiences.● Communicate effectively with parents regarding student needs and artistic or academic progress.● Help coordinate special events, such as Book Fairs or guest speaker series.● Serve in one or two extra-curricular areas, such as sponsoring an art club or serving on a committee.Qualifications● Committed follower of Jesus Christ, reflecting a desire to serve Him and others in work and life.● Eager to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience,patience, courage, and Christian discipleship.● High school diploma required; some college or experience in a library/educational setting preferred.● Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets) and a quick move up the learning curve for librarymanagement software.● An understanding of exploring literacy and reading with biblical worldview and integration.● An understanding of teaching Art with biblical worldview and integration.● An eagle eye for detail and a love for "a place for everything."● Positive attitude and a genuine love for and ability to connect with students from JK through 8th grade.● Passion for learning, strong behavior management skills, and a willingness to work collaboratively.● Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively andprofessionally with students, parents and faculty/staff.● Ability to represent the school well to others and our community.● Demonstrated ability to serve with initiative and proactive approaches.● Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (books/equipment).● Frequent reaching, bending, and standing for extended periods.
