Senior Legal Counsel (Insurance & Reinsurance)Location: Hartford, CT (Hybrid)A global insurance solutions provider is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its legal team, supporting both Life and P&C business lines. This is a key role within a commercially focused, international organization specializing in legacy portfolios, risk transfer solutions, and capital optimization strategies.The position sits within a global legal function and works closely with underwriting, finance, and senior leadership teams on complex insurance and reinsurance matters. This is a business-facing role offering strong exposure to cross-border transactions, strategic initiatives, and high-impact decision-making within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.Key ResponsibilitiesAdvise on a broad range of insurance and reinsurance matters, including risk transfer arrangements and legacy portfolio transactionsDraft, review, and negotiate insurance and reinsurance agreements across multiple jurisdictionsProvide guidance on underwriting risk, claims exposure, and reserve-related issuesPartner with business teams on capital management and strategic initiatives tied to insurance structuresEnsure compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks across jurisdictionsSupport the resolution of legal and operational issues arising from ongoing business activitiesMonitor and advise on evolving regulatory requirements impacting insurance operationsManage external counsel on complex insurance matters and ensure cost-effective deliveryContribute to cross-border legal projects and collaborate with global stakeholdersProvide support on broader corporate and financing matters as neededCandidate ProfileQualified lawyer with 6+ years of post-qualified experienceStrong background in insurance and reinsurance law, ideally gained at a top-tier law firm or in-houseExperience drafting and negotiating insurance or reinsurance agreements requiredExposure to legacy portfolios, risk transfer structures, or capital solutions strongly preferredExperience within financial services, particularly insurance, highly advantageousAbility to operate across jurisdictions and manage complex, cross-border mattersCommercially minded with strong stakeholder engagement skillsIndependent, proactive, and comfortable in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication skills with the ability to provide clear, practical legal adviceCollaborative and adaptable, with a willingness to work across global teams and time zones
