We plan 30 years ahead for the future of the metropolitan area and provide regional transportation, wastewater, and housing services.Within our community development division is a multidisciplinary research team that collects, disseminates, and analyzes data about demographic trends, development patterns, climate change, parks visitation, equity, and the regional economy. We believe research can improve the lives of residents in our region, and see our skills, creativity, and platforms as resources to further shared understanding about regional issues that matter. The Data Visualization Specialist will be part of the strategy and product design group, a unit within the community development research team. We are creative problem-solvers who think how research products are developed is as important as the product itself. We center people, we integrate equity, and we transform technical into accessible through—and by—design.What You Would Do In This JobCollaborate with researchers and data scientists to create digital research contentBuild public-facing interactives such as dashboards, maps, dynamic tables, and digital reports using Tableau, ESRI ArcOnline, and other software/toolsSupport research product development from requirements gathering and iterative prototyping to refinements based on user requirements and ongoing web analyticsWork with both source data and analyzed data/outputs to create interactives; use version control and other documentation to ensure accuracy, replicability, and clarity with collaboratorsUse and grow your data visualization and design skills to enhance digital research contentUse and expand your knowledge of data visualization, design, usability, and web accessibility best practices and share this information with research staff and other stakeholdersEngage in virtual quantitative and qualitative user experience (UX) research efforts to improve and refine research productsPresent approaches and results to interagency practitioners groups, conferences, and other forumsContribute to the community development research team’s strategic priorities Contribute ideas to our emerging data visualization best practices and innovative uses of current tools/softwareSupport the creation and implementation of the research team’s 2023 digital content strategyBuild deeper, ongoing relationships with current and potential audiences within and outside the organizationPlay a key role in the reimagining of our current web pages and flagship data tools like Community ProfilesPlease see the full job posting for qualifications and salary.
