Salary: $35,506.00 - $47,070.00 Annually Location : Wilson, NCJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 2025-19Division: Finance and Administrative ServicesDepartment: Business OfficeOpening Date: 02/26/2026Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Controller, performs technical accounting functions for the business office of the college.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrepares the County A/P package for purchase orders, travel, blanket purchase orders and direct payments.Processes daily County A/P packages including keying, printing, scanning, and filing of financial checks.Audits County invoices, travel, and A/P packages for accuracy and completeness.Assists with month-end and year-end close-out and annual financial audit.Serves as back-up to Accounting Specialist II (Accounts Payable) and other staff in the office.Assists with creating and maintaining payroll spreadsheets for all full-time and part-time college personnel as a reconciliation tool to the Colleague payroll system that includes salaries, longevity, overload pay, and for any other pay adjustments that may be needed.Assists in performing specialized technical payroll calculations involving gross pay, retirement, taxes, contract calculation, retroactive pay, fringe benefits and leave records.Maintains benefit spreadsheets and reconciles to monthly invoices to ensure employee deductions are accurate and works with Accounts Payable to process vendor payments.Assists in answering inquiries, providing information, researching and resolving payroll and benefit problems and discrepancies.Works with Human Resources to confirm payroll related information and determine deductions and benefits.Checks monthly time sheets for non-exempt salaried employees and tracks compensatory time.Ensures compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.Works with Human Resources to ensure that benefit/deduction changes are updated and all changes are reviewed for accuracy.Knowledge ofAccounting principles and practices.Laws, general statutes, rules and regulations governing community college accounting processes.Automated accounting processes.Financial and accounting support functions.Payroll practices and principles and their relationship to accounting requirements.Laws, rules, regulations, policies and practices applicable to the payroll function.Principles and practices of PC's and related software.Ability toOperate a PC and related software.Process and complete accounting tasks with accuracy.Maintain payroll records.Compile, evaluate and reconcile a variety of accounting records and reports.Use sound judgment in handling payroll and personnel records and related issues.College-wide ExpectationsWCC places a high value on creating an engaged, collaborative campus environment; therefore, employees are required to complete their work hours in person on WCC's campus. There is an employee contribution to the State Health Plan; however, the State pays a portion of the monthly premium as well. Dependents may also be covered. You may elect 70/30 coverage or 80/20 coverage. Upon retirement, coverage may continue; however, it depends on the conditions under which you retire. It should be noted that insurance premiums are expensive, and rates/coverage may change annually. Open enrollment allows for changes to be made to your health coverage, and it is usually conducted in October each year.RETIREMENTTeachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS)Six percent of your gross salary as pre-taxed dollars goes into your retirement account monthly. A death benefit of one time's your annual salary (minimum $25,000 and maximum $50,000) is provided to you once you have been in the system for one year. Once you have completed five years in the system, you are considered to be vested.Unreduced Retirement Benefits are available as follow:Age 65 with 5 years of serviceAge 60 with 25 years of serviceAny age with 30 years of serviceDisability Income Plan:Is provided through TSERS. The plan provides short-term benefits after one year in the system. After a sixty-day waiting period, the plan pays 50% ofyour salary and longevity up to $3,000 per month for one year.It also provides long-term benefits after you are vested (5 years in the system). The plans pays 65% of your salary and longevity, up to $3900 per month until the disability ends. Long-term benefits include health coverage and the death benefit. Payments will be reduced if you are receiving social security disability benefits or workers compensation benefits.WORKERS COMPENSATIONUpon an accidental injury on the job, you will be covered by Workers Compensation.
