Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) - Overnight Surgical Specialties

OverviewPosition SummaryThe Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides overnight inpatient coverage for Surgical Specialties including Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, and related consult services. This role is focused on acute floor-based patient care , emphasizing clinical evaluation, cross-coverage, and timely management of patient needs. No ICU coverage is required.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical CareProvide comprehensive overnight cross-coverage for surgical patients on inpatient floorsPerform focused assessments, develop care plans, and implement appropriate interventionsRespond to acute clinical changes, pages, and nursing concerns in a timely mannerManage post-operative patients, including monitoring recovery, pain control, and complicationsEvaluate new consults as assigned by supervising surgical teamsProcedures (as credentialed and applicable)Wound assessment and bedside managementRemoval or care of drains, lines, staples, or suturesAssist with minor bedside procedures as requiredCare CoordinationCommunicate effectively with attending surgeons, residents (if applicable), and day teamsProvide clear and concise sign-out to incoming day team providersCollaborate with nursing staff and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe patient careDocumentation* Complete timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)* Document cross-cover events, consult notes, progress notes, and clinical decisionsCoverage ScopeOrthopedicsNeurosurgerySpineFloor patients only - no ICU responsibilitySchedule* Overnight shifts (e.g., 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM; may vary by department)* Rotating weekends and holidays as requiredQualificationsRequiredGraduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) programActive state licensure as NP or PACertification by appropriate national board (e.g., AANP, ANCC, NCCPA)Current BLS and ACLS certificationMinimum 1 year of inpatient or surgical experience preferredPreferredExperience in Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, or Surgical Hospital MedicineStrong clinical decision-making and triage skillsAbility to work independently in a fast-paced overnight environmentKey CompetenciesExcellent clinical judgment and prioritization skillsStrong communication and teamwork abilitiesAbility to manage multiple patients and urgent situations simultaneouslyComfort with autonomous practice with physician support as neededWork EnvironmentInpatient hospital settingFrequent walking between unitsFast-paced overnight coverage with variable patient acuityReporting Structure* Reports to: APP Manager / Clinical Manager* Clinical supervision: Attending surgeons (Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, and consulting services)Additional NotesThis role is non-ICU , focusing strictly on floor-level careAPP will act as a key overnight resource for nursing staff and consulting teamsOpportunity to develop expertise in surgical cross-coverage and acute inpatient careAdditional InformationTo learn more, please email our In-House Physician RecruiterNathalie Martinez at Nathalie.Martinez@YNHH.orgWebsites: www.northeastmedicalgroup.org/careers www.ynhhs.orgYNHHS Requisition ID172541
