It all starts with our purpose and then, The Five Below Way, which is our values and behaviors that each and every associate believes in.It’s all about culture at Five Below, making this a place that can inspire you as much as you inspire us with big ideas, super energy, passion, and the ability to make the workplace a WOWplace!Key ResponsibilitiesPayroll ProcessingOwn preparation and processing of weekly and biweekly payroll for 20,000+ employeesEnsure accuracy and timeliness by reviewing payroll data for completeness and resolving discrepanciesServe as a lead resource for troubleshooting payroll issues and escalating as appropriateCollaborate cross-functionally with HR, Benefits, Finance, and Time & Attendance teamsPayroll Tax ComplianceLead periodic compliance audits across all payroll tax obligations to ensure ongoing complianceIdentify discrepancies and drive resolution with internal stakeholdersBuild and maintain audit documentation, internal controls, and compliance tracking processesServe as the internal subject matter expert on payroll tax compliance mattersOwn quarterly compliance tracking and ensure timely implementation of regulatory updatesSupport SOX compliance requirements as applicable to payroll and tax activitiesTax Vendor ManagementServe as the primary point of contact for the company’s payroll tax vendor (BSI)Ensure taxes are assigned accurately and processed on a timely basisMonitor vendor performance and escalate issues to leadership as appropriateCoordinate between the vendor and internal payroll operations to resolve discrepanciesManage vendor configuration updates resulting from regulatory or system changesTax Configuration & ReconciliationOwn end-to-end payroll tax reconciliation and ensure accuracy of all tax filingsMonitor tax configuration in Workday Payroll to ensure proper withholding across all jurisdictionsReview and reconcile payroll tax adjustments, amended returns, and retroactive paymentsLead year-end tax activities including W-2 preparation, ACA reporting, and final reconciliationsEarnings, Deductions & System ConfigurationOwn configuration and maintenance of earnings and deductions in Workday PayrollPartner with HR and Benefits to ensure accurate deduction setup including benefits and retirement plansValidate system configuration changes and assess downstream payroll impact before deploymentData Analysis & ReportingPrepare ad-hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reports ensuring accuracy and timelinessPerform payroll data analysis to identify trends, errors, and process improvement opportunitiesOwn data reconciliation between payroll and internal systems (Time & Attendance, Accounting)Process ImprovementProactively identify and lead payroll process improvements, including post-implementation optimizationOwn assigned process improvement initiatives from scoping through executionPartner with cross-functional teams to drive system enhancements and best practicesDocument processes and contribute to team cross-training and knowledge transferQualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field5+ years of payroll experience with deep knowledge of processing, compliance, and taxHands-on experience with Workday Payroll required; post-implementation experience strongly preferredDemonstrated experience owning payroll tax compliance audits and vendor relationshipsFamiliarity with multi-state payroll tax laws, garnishments, and year-end reportingSkills & AbilitiesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage large data sets accuratelyAbility to operate independently, own complex workstreams, and drive to resolution without close directionEffective communication and cross-functional collaboration skillsAdvanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data modeling)Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalismPreferred QualificationsCPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification or active progress toward certificationExperience managing a payroll tax vendor relationshipExposure to international payroll operations or expansion projectsExplore our benefits site to discover all the perks and support we offer!
