The selected candidate would oversee TAP at Horizon Elementary School for the 2026-2027 academic year. Our Thursday Afterschool Program meets once per week on Thursday afternoons throughout the school year and follows a structured schedule that consists of active play on the playground, table top games, snack, and a daily craft or STEM project.Dates and hours needed:Thursdays, 2026-2027 School Year (Sept-June)1:00-5:30 pmMonthly planning meetings, date/time TBD.Starting wage - $16.50 -$20.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications: The position qualifies for $.50 increases annually.Position will stay open until filled.Essential Job FunctionsMajor Duties/Essential FunctionsLead, demonstrate and instruct participants in recreation programs and activities.Provide an interactive, positive, fun and safe environment for the participants while effectively teaching provided lesson plansAssist in the development of program curriculum and lesson plansSupervise all participantsListen, respond and answer questions and concerns from parents and participantsProvide clear communication to and from coordinator, participants and parentsProvide direction and support for Program Assistant(s)Attend all required meetings and trainingsOther duties as assignedMinor Duties/ResponsibilitiesAssist in setting up and cleaning up the facility/equipmentNotify coordinator of problems and concerns regarding equipment, facilities, participants and/or spectatorsDistribute any needed supplies or information to participants/parentsComplete time card on time and hand into the coordinatorArrive on time, dressed appropriately according to the dress code and ready to interact with coworkers, participants and parentsRequirements of WorkExperience/Education Minimum of 1+ years of working with youth/adults in a childcare/recreation setting requiredPrevious instruction or coaching experience preferredCompleted coursework in Early Childhood Education, Elementary or Secondary Education, Recreation or Sports Management or related coursework preferred, but not required.KnowledgeKnowledge of appropriate classroom management and instruction methodsKnowledge of standard safety practicesSkill/AbilityMust be 18 years of age or olderAbility and willingness to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructionsAbility and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members, supervisor(s) and the public, and to deal with them in a courteous and tactful mannerStrong oral communication skillsAbility and willingness to maintain a safe and positive learning environmentAbility and willingness to supervise and maintain control of participants in a group and/or 1-on-1 settingAbility and willingness to keep accurate records and complete any necessary paperworkOther Job FunctionsPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
