This role provides leadership over daily landfill operations, regulatory compliance, safety programs, personnel management, and long-term operational planning. The Landfill Operations Manager ensures facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations while supporting Capital Waste Services’ strategic growth objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesOperational LeadershipLead and oversee all landfill operations, including waste placement, compaction, cover application, traffic control, and site logisticsDevelop and execute daily, weekly, and long-range operational plans to optimize airspace utilization and site lifespanOversee heavy equipment deployment, maintenance coordination, and operational efficiencyEstablish and monitor operational KPIs, including tonnage, equipment productivity, labor efficiency, and downtimeEnvironmental & Regulatory ComplianceEnsure full compliance with all landfill permits, state solid waste regulations, EPA requirements, and local ordinancesOversee environmental monitoring programs, including groundwater, landfill gas, stormwater, and erosion controlMaintain accurate regulatory records, logs, and reportsServe as the primary contact for regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and compliance reviewsSafety & Risk ManagementChampion a strong safety culture aligned with Capital Waste Services’ safety standards and OSHA requirementsConduct safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective action plansEnsure all employees are properly trained on safety procedures, equipment operation, and emergency responsePeople Management & DevelopmentDirectly manage landfill supervisors, operators, scale house staff, and support personnelHandle hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, and corrective actionBuild a high-performing, accountable team focused on safety, compliance, and operational excellenceFinancial & Administrative OversightManage landfill operating budgets, expense controls, and cost-reduction initiativesTrack and analyze financial and operational data to improve performance and profitabilitySupport capital planning for equipment purchases, site development, and infrastructure improvementsCustomer, Vendor & Internal RelationsCoordinate closely with internal hauling operations, transfer stations, and corporate support teamsMaintain professional relationships with municipalities, contractors, vendors, and customersAddress operational issues, service concerns, and site access matters promptly and professionallyQualificationsRequiredMinimum 7+ years of landfill or solid waste operations experience, including progressive leadership responsibilityStrong working knowledge of landfill operations, heavy equipment, and environmental complianceDemonstrated experience managing safety-sensitive teamsAbility to interpret and implement regulatory requirements, permits, and operational plansProficiency with operational reporting, compliance documentation, and computer systemsPreferredState-issued Landfill Operator or Manager CertificationExperience managing multiple disposal sites or large-scale landfill operationsBackground working directly with state environmental agencies and regulatory inspectorsCore CompetenciesOperational leadership and strategic planningSafety-first mindset and regulatory disciplineFinancial acumen and cost controlStrong communication, coaching, and decision-making skillsAbility to work in outdoor, industrial environments under varying conditionsWork EnvironmentOutdoor landfill operations with regular exposure to heavy equipment, noise, and varying weatherOccasional extended hours or on-call responsibilities based on operational needsWhy Join Capital Waste ServicesGrowing, stable company in the environmental services industrySenior operations leadership role with high visibility and impactStrong culture centered on safety, people, and community serviceCompetitive compensation and benefits package Requirements: PI8b4460dc3281-37483-40007424
