Lime - Mining Engineer

Overview The Mine Engineer: Provides technical expertise, support, training, and leadership in reference to MLC’s mining activities across the enterprise. Uses problem-solving skills and engineering judgement to improve MLC’s mining operations. Identifies projects the Mine Engineer then develops into processes to improve operations. Although the mine has no formal external customers, Mine Engineers ensure that their internal customers’ needs are satisfied. Requirements Education: BS in Mining Engineering, Geology, Geological Engineering, or closely related field is required. Microsoft Office and CAD design proficiency commensurate with experience Has interest in and commitment to teamwork and team-based systems. Essential Functions Operational Effectiveness Mine Plan Utilize DDH data and modeling software to build and maintain an appropriate deposit model Update Five-Year Mine Plan annually, working with others to develop and implement Long-, Mid- and Short-Range goals. Perform Five-Year Mine Plan reviews annually and as needed Ground Control Review, prepare and present Ground Control information meetings quarterly and as needed Manage site extensometer data, borescoping programs, and other Ground Control related data and programs General Operations Support Lead the Quality Pillar in both Drill Blast Scale and Kiln Feed departments Technical troubleshooting as needed/requested Assist with regulatory and standard compliance both personally and for the broader organization Conduct proactive process monitoring / analysis / adjustment Minimize process variability via Six Sigma and Operational Excellence projects as appropriate Train manufacturing personnel to improve processes Maintain documentation to support technical and regulatory systems Lead and implement small technical projects Capital Project Support New equipment installation/commissioning/troubleshooting as requested/needed Equipment replacement PHA/PSSE Projects Meet and exceed customer expectations Providing Direction Participates in prioritization of work based upon occupational and process safety, production, rate of return and regulatory requirements. Designs, develops and implements data collection and analysis systems which accurately reflect the performance of the process Develops functional standards, systems and procedures. Utilizes information systems to capture and facilitate use of organizational memory Provides information to leaders for budgeting material and variable usages and capital expenditures. People Development Builds technical troubleshooting skills in manufacturing personnel. Assists in management of external resources Develops capability within operators by providing technical expertise and training for operations Identifies and works with Operations to address gaps in manufacturing personnel capabilities Implements systems to train/transfer support of plant requirements to operators and supervisors to improve operating discipline to begin and maintain cost savings/improvement projects. Creates processes to transfer work required for the daily support of plant requirements to operators and supervisors when appropriate. Works to maintain sustainable operations Collaborating and Networking Effectively communicates and directs manufacturing personnel to improve current and future performance of process. This includes constant, ongoing communication with: Mine Operations leadership and supervision Surface customers and supervisors Engineering Manager Laboratory Environmental Department Hourly Workforce Constantly assesses whether there is a better way for manufacturing personnel to perform their tasks, and develops processes to improve when opportunities arise. Networks with other engineers on site for best practices, technology upgrades and consistent application of engineering codes and standards. Collaborates on local product strategies with Manufacturing Coordinators, engineers, maintenance team, and other stakeholders. Does think or act territorially about their job. Metrics/Results Monitors budgeting of raw material usages and tracks process performance Develops KPIs as needed to maintain focus on areas of interest Tracks and Evaluates Specific Energy Consumption of Operations Assists with budgeting of capital projects within product group Employees are expected to perform other responsibilities as needed.
