Hiring DepartmentUniversity of Missouri-Kansas CitySchool of Nursing and Health StudiesBachelor of Science in Nursing / Master of Science in Nursing / Doctor of Nursing Practice ProgramsJob DescriptionThe Simulation Technician supports the daily operations of the simulation lab within the School of Nursing and Health Studies. This role is responsible for the technical setup, operation, and care of simulation equipment and supporting technologies. The Simulation Technician collaborates with the Director of Clinical Simulation, the Clinical lab manager and other simulation staff to ensure smooth delivery of simulation activities that enhance student learning and clinical skill development. This position requires a semester-long commitment, with opportunities for renewal.Primary Responsibilities:Prepare, operate, and maintain high-fidelity mannequins, task trainers, and audiovisual systems during simulation activities.Set up simulation rooms with appropriate props, medical supplies, moulage, and environmental cues.Support the development and execution of simulation scenarios by managing the physical and technical environment.Troubleshoot equipment and software issues in real time to minimize interruptions.Assist with inventory management and restocking of supplies and consumables.Record and archive simulation sessions using AV software; assist with playback and video debriefing.Collaborate with Director of Clinical Simulation to ensure simulation goals and objectives are met through proper execution.Maintain simulation center in a clean, organized, and functional state.Stay current with simulation technology trends and make recommendations for upgrades or improvementsParticipate in orientation, training, and ongoing professional development activities as requestedFoster a supportive and inclusive learning environment consistent with the mission and values of UMKC and the School of Nursing and Health StudiesParticipate in briefing and debriefing sessions as appropriateThis is a part-time non-benefit eligible, unranked academic position. Hours are based on the department need and applicant availability. For Fall 2025 hours will range from 8 to 22 hours per week.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:Associate's degree or equivalent experience in healthcare, biomedical equipment, IT, or a related technical field.Experience with technical equipment and software; comfort with computers, AV systems, and troubleshooting.Comfort with role-playing and performing as part of simulated healthcare scenarios; basic acting skills or willingness to participate in character-based simulations.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work in a physically active environment.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in a health-related or technical field.Prior experience working in simulation, healthcare education, or clinical environments.Familiarity with simulation platforms such as Laerdal, CAE, or Gaumard.Experience using AV capture/debrief systems such as SimCapture, LearningSpace, or B-Line.Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical processesApplication MaterialsTo be considered, you must complete the application at www.umkc.edu/jobs including Legal Name, US employment eligibility, and current contact information.
