Role Description The Dean of Academics is responsible for leading and strengthening the academic program for grades 6–12. This role focuses on curriculum alignment, instructional consistency, academic policies, assessment practices, and student achievement. Working closely with the Principal and department leaders, the Dean of Academics ensures that teaching, learning, grading, and reporting are aligned with the school’s mission and strategic priorities.The Dean serves as the Middle and High school’s primary academic advisor, helping establish clear expectations for curriculum, instruction, and assessment while supporting teachers in delivering a rigorous, well-coordinated, and values-driven educational experience. This is an on-site role located in Memphis, TN, requiring strong leadership and a commitment to the school’s mission and values.Responsibilities: 1. Academic Leadership & Program DevelopmentIn collaboration with the principal, lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Middle and High School academic program.Ensure curriculum is vertically aligned across grades 6–12 and horizontally aligned within departments.Establish and maintain clear scope and sequence documents, pacing guides, and course outlines.Oversee the development and review of syllabi for all courses.Promote academic rigor and consistency across all subject areas.Ensure alignment between curriculum, instruction, assessment, and reporting.2. Curriculum & Instruction OversightWork with teachers and department leaders to review instructional practices and academic expectations.Support the implementation of effective teaching strategies and evidence-based practices.Coordinate curriculum reviews and textbook/resource recommendations.Ensure elective offerings and advanced coursework align with student needs, applicable graduation pathways and college readiness goals.3. Assessment, Grading & Academic PoliciesStandardize grading practices and academic expectations across departments.In collaboration with the principal, lead the development and implementation of homework, assessment, and academic integrity policies to ensure consistent, high‑quality academic standards across the school.Analyze assessment data, report card trends, AP results, and standardized testing outcomes.Identify achievement gaps and recommend interventions and program improvements.4. Teacher Support & Professional DevelopmentProvide coaching and support to teachers on curriculum planning, assessment design, and instructional practices.In collaboration with the principal, coordinate professional development focused on academic excellence.Assist with onboarding new teachers and ensuring they understand curriculum and academic expectations while providing resources and tools necessary for high quality teaching.Facilitate inter-department meetings and collaborative planning.5. Student Academic SupportMonitor student academic performance and coordinate intervention strategies.Work with principal, counselors, and teachers to support struggling students.Oversee academic probation and eligibility processes.Help develop systems for tracking student progress and communicating with families.6. Data Analysis & ReportingEstablish academic dashboards and key performance indicators.Prepare regular reports for the Principal and Board of Directors on academic performance, curriculum implementation, and strategic initiatives.Use data to inform decisions and prioritize improvement efforts.7. Accreditation & Continuous ImprovementSupport accreditation efforts and implementation of academic action plans.Ensure academic policies and practices align with accreditation standards and educational best practices.Participate in school improvement initiatives.8. Islamic Identity IntegrationCollaborate with school leadership to ensure Islamic values are intentionally integrated into curriculum, instruction, and classroom culture.Support teachers in connecting academic excellence with character development and service. Qualifications Expertise in Accreditation and Academic Administration processes.Proficient in Curriculum Development and implementing effective educational programs.Experience in Enrollment Management and strategies to support institutional growth.Strong leadership in Student Affairs, including fostering student development and support initiatives.Advanced understanding of educational trends and practices, specifically within Islamic educational frameworks.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Master’s or Doctorate degree in Education, Educational Administration, or a related field is preferred.Previous leadership experience in academic settings is highly desirable.
