Family And Consumer Science (FCS) Teacher – Job DescriptionPosition SummaryA Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher educates students in practical life skills, career readiness, and academic concepts related to nutrition, food preparation, child development, personal finance, textiles, wellness, housing, and consumer education. The teacher creates engaging classroom and laboratory experiences that prepare students for independent living, family responsibilities, and careers in related industries.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesDevelop and deliver lesson plans aligned with state and district curriculum standardsTeach courses such as nutrition, culinary arts, parenting, child development, financial literacy, sewing/textiles, wellness, and career readinessSupervise hands-on classroom and laboratory activities safely and effectivelyAssess student performance through projects, assignments, tests, and demonstrationsMaintain classroom management and a positive learning environmentIntegrate technology and career-based learning into instructionSupport student participation in leadership and career organizations such as Family, Career and Community Leaders of AmericaMaintain classroom equipment, supplies, and inventoryCommunicate with parents, administrators, and support staff regarding student progressParticipate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school eventsEnsure compliance with school policies and safety regulationsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, Education, or a related fieldValid state teaching certification/licensureKnowledge of instructional strategies and classroom management techniquesStrong communication and organizational skillsAbility to work effectively with students from diverse backgroundsPreferred QualificationsPrevious teaching or student teaching experienceCertification in culinary arts, nutrition, or child developmentExperience with career and technical education (CTE) programsCPR/First Aid certificationSkills and CompetenciesInstructional planningClassroom leadershipCommunication and interpersonal skillsTime managementCreativity and adaptabilityStudent engagement strategiesSafety and sanitation proceduresTechnology integrationWork EnvironmentClassroom and laboratory settingMay involve standing for extended periodsRequires supervision of kitchen equipment, sewing machines, or child development labsOccasional evening or extracurricular activities
