Data Engineer

This role blends hands-on data engineering with dashboard development, offering the chance to work across modern data platforms, automation tools, and cloud technologies in a collaborative environment.ResponsibilitiesBuild, maintain, and improve data structures and pipelines aligned with business needs.Support reporting and analytics solutions through dashboard development and data visualization.Work with data lakes, data warehouses, and Databricks environments to organize and govern data.Develop ETL processes and assist with data pipeline troubleshooting and optimization.Create and support dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or similar business intelligence tools.Design workflow automations, including Microsoft Power Automate, to improve efficiency.Translate business requirements into technical solutions and clear data flows.Help analysts and internal stakeholders access, understand, and use data effectively.Contribute to reporting, data quality, and monitoring efforts to support accurate insights.Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver end-to-end solutions.SkillsStrong background in data engineering and pipeline development.Hands-on experience with Databricks workspace and dataset management.Experience with PySpark and Spark SQL for ETL and data transformation work.Dashboard development experience using Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.Working knowledge of data lakes, data warehouses, and data governance concepts.Experience automating workflows, preferably with Microsoft Power Automate.Exposure to cloud environments, especially AWS services such as S3, EC2, Lambda, IAM, VPC networking, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and KMS.Understanding of IT operations, DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure concepts.Familiarity with security and compliance practices, including vulnerability management.Ability to analyze data and present findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.Preferred SkillsExperience working in a federal, regulated, or highly secure environment.Knowledge of Azure concepts.Background in data analytics, reporting, or business intelligence support.Experience building self-service reporting solutions for internal users.Familiarity with automation for customer communications or backend processes.Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.Horizontal is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where people of all backgrounds feel respected, supported, and empowered to contribute.
