They work hard, are passionate about the company and their role, are enthusiastic collaborators with teammates, have high personal standards for excellence and accomplish important work. We are looking for a hands-on Director of Finance & Accounting to take the lead on the day-to-day financial management, reporting, and analysis for our beloved and growing home furnishing brand. This person will bring structure, visibility, and insight to Nickey Kehoe's financial performance — building scalable processes, managing external accounting partners, and working closely with leadership to support data-driven decision-making.The ideal candidate has a depth of accounting and financial expertise with a track record of managing company financial rigor through periods of growth, establishing scalable processes, and maintaining disciplined cash and expense management. They are analytical, execution-oriented, and comfortable rolling up their sleeves to create clarity and drive results in a fast-paced, creativity-driven environment.DUTIES INCLUDE:Financial Leadership:Own and oversee day-to-day financial operations Establish and maintain shared financial standards, policies, and controls that support consistency and accountability across business channelsServe as a strategic finance partner to the business (Leadership + Fractional CFO), translating business vision and operating priorities into clear financial frameworksSupport executive-level decision-making through forward-looking analysis, scenario planning, and performance insightsFinancial Operations & Treasury Management:Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow managementManage core accounting systems and workflows (e.g., QuickBooks, Bill.com, payroll, expense management, credit cards, AP/AR)Ensure accurate, timely monthly closes and financial reconciliationsBuild and implement end-to-end inventory accounting & forecasting including reconciliations, costing, reserves, and controlsLead payroll administration and continuously improve efficiency and accuracy of accounting processesStrategic Planning:Lead the financial component of the annual budget planning process across Nickey Kehoe including revenue targets, margin goals, staffing plans, and overhead allocationsDesign and enforce internal controls, financial policies, and approval processes that protect assets and mitigate riskMaximize return on cash while maintaining appropriate liquidity for operations and growthPartner with department leads to ensure scopes of work, staffing models, and pricing align with margin and profitability goalsFinancial Reporting:Prepare and present financial reporting for executive leadership and investorsDevelop dashboards and reporting tools that track KPIs, benchmarks, and trends across the businessProduce ad-hoc and deep-dive analyses on revenue performance, cost structure, utilization, and profitabilityTranslate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-finance leadersCompliance, Audit & Governance:Develop, maintain, and document policies and SOPs to strengthen internal controlsEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations and reporting requirementsManage relationships with accounting, tax partners, banks, and financial partnersStay ahead of regulatory changes and proactively advise leadership on implications and required actionsCross-Functional Leadership:Build, manage, and mentor finance and accounting resources (internal and external)Collaborate closely with fractional CFO and business owners to support a growing and creatively ambitious businessBring operational rigor to fast-moving, creative environments while maintaining a solutions-oriented, collaborative approach.QUALIFICATIONS & KEY ATTRIBUTES:Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA requiredMinimum of 8+ years of experience in Accounting/FinancePrior experience as a Controller or Finance lead in retail and/or manufacturingProven knowledge in inventory accounting and cost managementExperience with financial reporting requirements and preparing Board/ investor presentationsKeen ability to track budgeted expenses and analyze variancesExceptional knowledge of accounting, finance, budgeting, cost control principles, and GAAPExperience in managing payroll and benefits, with focus on streamlining accounting processesWorking knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reportingSelf-starter with a data-driven approach to problem-solving and decision-makingAbility to work well with Founders and senior executives as well as lead other team membersVALUES & BENEFITS: Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance 401(k) + Company Matching Competitive Paid Time Off Generous Employee DiscountHybrid Work OpportunitiesParental Leave Benefits Monthly Office LunchesCommunity VolunteeringThe annual base salary range for this position is $180,000–$200,000.
