One or more years of previous experience in the surveying or construction field. Working knowledge of computers. Ability to communicate effectively in a professional environment. Effective public relations skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others.DESIRED/PREFERRED: Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office; AutoCAD Civil 3D, Geographic Information Systems G.I.S. and related software; Testing of Bituminous Pavement and Aggregates; Construction Surveying.Job DutiesAssist in project preparation and design activities on in-house road, bridge, and drainage project designs. Activities include but are not limited to:Collect survey data from topography such as location of physical objects direct elevations, cross sections, etc.Stake grades and control, and verify staking and layout with construction plansAutoCAD Civil 3D drafting of construction plans and survey platsEstimate project quantities and costsDocument researchAssist in construction inspection, quality assurance, and project safety as related to compliance with contract administrative requirements. Activities include but are not limited to:Receive and verify material quantities as construction materials are delivered and installed on the construction siteEnsure work and materials comply with specifications and applicable standardsPerform sample and material test for bituminous materials and aggregatesConduct field measurements and documentation of quantities as required by the contractPerform Office administrative activities, including check of quantities and documentation, reports for progress and payment, and check of payrolls, etc.Work independently and with staff to coordinate general office activities and the day to day operation of the department.
