This position will report directly to the Software Engineering Manager and play a key role in helping the company maintain and develop new and existing applications.DetailWork Location: Headquarters, Shawnee, KSDepartment: Software EngineeringJob Type: Full-time, In-personReports to: Software Engineering ManagerThe following bullet(s) describe the essence of this role:Develop high-quality, testable, and well-documented code in a full stack environment that includes Vue, React, Alpine.js, PHP, Laravel, MySQL (or any other relational database) and othersBuild and/or contribute to broad application architectures that are both scalable and performantSolve problems with both code and data to provide informed solutions to Schier’s internal teams and an array of customer typesImplementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines to automate common processes, and test and deploy codeWork in an in-person environment with direct access to stakeholdersThe following bullets describe typical daily and weekly activities of this role:Participate in daily stand-up meetings with the software development teamManaging your own individual workload by monitoring your assigned tasks, allowing you to resolve 50-80% of bug reports within the same business dayContributing to Schier’s digital ecosystem by deploying stable and performant features and/or bug fixes at least three to five times a weekBe willing to both function as part of a team and the ability to take ownership of an idea/initiative and push it forward using ideation and innovationHave the continuous aspiration to keep skills and knowledge of industry trends/movements freshCollaborate with both internal and external development team members and clearly communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical team membersBeing able to accept an assigned task and complete it to the best of your ability that is both stable and clean. Must be willing to ask for help and/or advice to complete tasks in a timely mannerShowing a strong analytic and investigative desire for solving problems and providing innovative solutions using software and cloud-based technologyRequired Qualifications for this role:At least 6 years of product/software development experienceHave deep familiarity with the PHP language and Laravel frameworkDeep understanding of object-oriented programmingFluent and comfortable with at least one modern JavaScript framework (i.e. Angular, React, Vue.js, etc)Experience with implementing and extending TailwindCSSAn applicable understanding of modern relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, and their use within applicationsAn applicable understanding and willingness to implement test-driven development in your daily workA practical understanding of different authentication methods such as OAuth, Bearer tokens, and JWTs, along with their respective advantages and disadvantagesExperience building and maintaining a REST API, including but not limited to GraphQLA working knowledge of modern CI/CD principles and practicesAbility to multi-task across multiple projects, applications, and features simultaneously and prioritize work accordinglyAbility to participate in peer code reviews and provide constructive feedbackAbility to identify and consume code or project-related documentation and apply it effectivelyPreferred Qualifications for this role:Familiarity and comfort with the macOS operating systemA strong grasp of employing AI in development processes without overrelianceExperience with cloud-native technologies like Docker and KubernetesExperience with Google Cloud Platform or DigitalOceanAbility to maintain and contribute to open source projectsAbility to implement various container-based CI/CD processes using GitHub Actions, Harness, CircleCI, etc.Ability and willingness to mentor junior developers on various aspects of application developmentWhat We DoSchier is the leading manufacturer of grease interceptors for commercial kitchens in the United States.
