Job Title: Administration - Secondary School PrincipalReports to: SuperintendentReceives Guidance From: Superintendent, Assistant SuperintendentFull Time: Overtime Status - ExemptJob PurposeThe purpose of this position is to provide leadership and supervision through administration skills to promote the educational development of each student.Duties And ResponsibilitiesEstablish and maintain an effective learning climate in the schoolInitiate, design, and implement programs to meet specific needs of the schoolKeep the superintendent informed of the school's administration and instructionMake recommendations concerning the school's administration and instructionPrepare and administer the school budget and supervise school financesSupervise the maintenance of all required building records and reportsPrepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administrationWork with various members of the central administrative staff on school problems of more than school import, such as transportation and special servicesKeep superintendent informed of events and activities of an unusual natureInterpret and enforce district policies and administrative regulationsMaintain active relationships with students and parentsBudget school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and businessLead in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional programSchedule classes within established guidelines to meet student needsAssist in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculumSupervise the guidance program to enhance individual student education and developmentMaintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline according to due process rights of studentsEstablish guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student disciplineAttend special events held to recognize student achievement, and attend school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic eventsMaintain and control the various local funds generated by student activitiesSupervise the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of studentsAssume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of health records studentsAssume responsibility for personal professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations; attendance of regional, state, and national meetings; and enrollment in advanced coursesKeep abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the fieldSupervise all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and support personnel attached to the schoolAssist in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school's staffSupervise the school's teaching processApprove the master teaching schedule and special assignmentsOrient newly assigned staff members and assist in their professional developmentEvaluate and counsel staff members regarding their individual and group performanceConduct staff meetings to maintain proper functioning of the schoolAssist in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructionsRecommend, according to established procedures, the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactoryMake arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachersAssume responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plantSupervise the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposesPlan and supervise fire drills, tornado drills, and an emergency preparedness programAssert leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established Board policyProvide for adequate inventories of school property and for the security and accountability for that propertySupervise all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the school's curriculumSupervise and evaluate the school's extracurricular programParticipate in principals' meetings, negotiations meetings, and such other meetingsServe as an ex officio member of all committees and councils within the schoolCooperate with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparationRespond to written and oral requests for informationAssume responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releasesOrganize and administer the pubic relations program for the schoolServe as a member of committees and attend meetings as directed by the superintendentDelegate authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principalMaintains and accepts responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned toemployee and ensures appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable useUndergoes periodic evaluations according to state and board policy proceduresMaintain confidentialityRegular, dependable, punctual and in person attendance is an essential function of this positionPerform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policyRead, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, all other district policies and applicable procedures and protocols as established by LCSD, Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct, state and federal lawsQualificationsTerms Of EmploymentEducation Level: Minimum of Master's Degree issued by an accredited college or universityCertification: Valid Mississippi Educator License with required endorsements [Career Level Administrator License] 486Other Requirements: AA in School Administration Secondary administration experienceMinimum five (5) years successful classroom experienceSalary and work year as established by the Lamar County Board of EducationPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
