Process Development Engineer
The Process Development Engineer will lead advanced development initiatives focused on new and emerging manufacturing processes, from concept through production implementation. This is a highly hands‑on role requiring strong technical depth in compression forming, injection molding, and related processes, combined with project leadership, customer engagement, and technology transfer responsibilities. The role supports innovation, cost competitiveness, sustainability, and lightweighting strategies while ensuring successful launch and integration into production environments.
Job Responsibilities
Lead Advanced Development Process projects focused on the development and implementation of new manufacturing processes.
Serve in a hands‑on engineering role, supporting all aspects of process development, including:
Tool installation and commissioning
Minor tooling modifications and adjustments
Participate in customer meetings and technical reviews, frequently leading technical discussions and problem‑solving activities.
Prepare professional presentation materials and present to both internal stakeholders and external customers.
Lead cost estimating activities for new and developing manufacturing processes.
Perform project management responsibilities, including:
Project planning
Budget management
Timing and milestone tracking
Research emerging manufacturing processes and technologies to remain current with industry trends and advancements.
Attend seminars, expositions, and industry events to maintain a high level of technical and market awareness.
Lead the technology transfer process from advanced development into the production organization.
Plan and execute effective process trials and tryouts to drive meaningful advancements in the technologies being developed.
Collaborate with suppliers, including:
Establishing new technical relationships
Supporting technology agreements and joint development activities
Position Requirements
Willingness to travel up to 20% in support of plant launches.
Technical Expertise:
Hands‑on experience with compression forming processes and downstream operations
Injection molding processes and tooling
Working knowledge of thermoforming processes, with a clear willingness to deepen expertise
Strong mechanical aptitude and practical manufacturing mindset
Demonstrated high‑level problem‑solving ability using structured methodologies
Professional Skills:
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong prioritization and time‑management skills
Effective communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of automotive interior systems including: instrument panels, floor consoles, door trim panels, related part constructions and designs.
Experience With
Lightweighting technologies
Recyclability and sustainability initiatives
Formal training or certification in: Design of Experiments (Black Belt preferred)
Experience with intellectual property processes, including: records of invention (ROI), patent development and documentation
Strong organizational and project planning skills
Education Requirement
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials, or related).
