SummaryUnder general supervision of the Attending Physician, in collaboration with other clinical staff, is responsible for evaluation and development of treatment plans for patients admitted to the gynecology service. Provide expert gynecologic consultation for inpatient and emergency department patients. Other job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:History and physicalOngoing assessment and interventionCoordination of inpatient careSurgical first assistingDischarge planningKey ResponsibilitiesCommunicate and coordinate effectively with supervising physician and other health professionals regarding the care of gynecology/gyn-oncology patients, as well as Obstetrics Clearly communicate with patients and their familiesProvide superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patientsIdentify and assess problems while interviewing and examining patientsOrder and interpret lab and imaging studies, prescribe medications, complete paperwork, and formulate treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicianPerform fetal heart tones, endometrial biopsies, IUD placement, Incision and drainage of abscess, suture/staple removal, drain removals, cervical biopsy, wound managementProvide pre and post-operative patient educationAct as surgical first assist for a variety of gynecology and gyn-oncology proceduresManage inpatient and outpatient gynecology issues, including perioperative careWork in a collaborative fashion along with supervising physician to manage post-operative patients in PACU, floor, or ICU Cover first call from office answering service during after-hoursPerform Basic and Advanced Life Support measures as necessaryPerform similar and related duties as requested by supervising physicianParticipate in data collection and research as directedReport immediately to supervising physician any deviation of normal operationsParticipate in Hospital Incident Reporting System and other risk management activitiesBe accountable for abiding by all relevant hospital policies and proceduresDemonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environmentCommit to recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external)Communicate effectively with internal and external customers with respect of differences in cultures, values, beliefs and ages, utilizing interpreters when neededMinimum QualificationsBASIC KNOWLEDGE:Nurse Practitioner: Master’s degree from an accredited advanced practice program. Must be certified by the ANCC or AANP. Current licensure as a nurse practitioner in the State of Rhode Island is required.Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree and a graduate of an accredited Master of Physician Assistant program. Must be certified by the NCCPA. Current license as a physician assistant in the State of Rhode Island is required.Certified Nurse Midwife: Graduate from an accredited midwifery program. Must be certified by the AMCB.
