Math Modeling Engineer
Spectrum Software Technology (SST)
Spectrum Software Technology (SST) is seeking a Math Modeling Engineer to support analytical modeling and simulation efforts for ground-based Navigational Aids (NAVAIDs) within civil aviation programs. This role blends system-level modeling, data analysis, and technical documentation to support navigation and landing system performance.
Position Summary
The Math Modeling Engineer will use advanced modeling and simulation tools to evaluate NAVAID performance in real-world environments. Responsibilities include recreating terrain and physical features within modeling platforms, analyzing modeled results against measured flight inspection data, and delivering clear technical reports and briefings. The role may also involve development of analytical tools using basic programming techniques.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform system-level modeling and simulation of NAVAID performance
Analyze simulation outputs and compare results with flight inspection measurement data
Build terrain and object representations using modeling software
Prepare detailed technical reports, analysis documentation, and presentations
Support Navigation and Landing teams with modeling, analysis, and troubleshooting efforts
Assist in developing and refining analytical tools and methodologies
Apply basic coding techniques to support modeling and data analysis tasks
Work Environment
Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite / 2 days remote
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline
1–5 years of relevant experience, including internships or co-op experience
Master’s degree may be substituted for required work experience
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to produce clear, well-structured technical documentation
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Technical Skillset
Experience or demonstrated interest in:
Data analysis and interpretation
Technical writing and reporting
Python
MATLAB
Basic programming or scripting experience
Microsoft Office, particularly Word and PowerPoint
CAD and simulation tools (AutoCAD, ANSYS, or similar) – a plus
