Appointed by and reporting directly to the Mayor, this executive-level position leads the City's planning, zoning, and economic development efforts while guiding long-term growth, business investment, and community vitality.This role oversees department operations, manages strategic planning initiatives, and ensures implementation of the City's Master Plan and Planning & Zoning Code. The Director works cross-departmentally and with elected officials, developers, residents, and regional partners to support responsible development, streamline projects, secure grants, and advance policies that strengthen the local economy.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the Economic & Community Development DepartmentOversee planning, zoning, and long-range development strategiesPrepare and manage local, state, and federal grant applicationsGuide business retention, expansion, and attraction initiativesSupervise departmental staff and operationsServe as liaison to City Council, boards, and community stakeholdersDevelop and administer annual operating and capital budgetsIdeal BackgroundCandidates should have experience in city planning, urban studies, or a related field, with demonstrated leadership in planning, zoning administration, project management, and public-sector operations.
