WELDER
Position SummaryThe Welder I is an entry- to mid-level role responsible for performing stick welding on steel components and rebar assemblies in FABco's fabrication shop. Welders I work under close supervision to gain proficiency in stick welding techniques, while also developing basic skills in MIG welding and shop safety. The goal of this role is to build a foundation that will allow advancement to Welder II. Key ResponsibilitiesPerform Stick (tack) welding on steel parts, rebar, and fabricated assemblies under supervisionAssist with basic MIG welding tasks as assignedRead and follow basic shop drawings and welding symbolsOperate welding equipment, grinders, and cutting torches safely and correctlyInspect welds for strength and accuracy; correct defects with guidanceAssist with material handling, positioning, and setup of workpiecesMaintain welding equipment in proper working orderFollow company and OSHA safety policies at all timesMaintain a clean and organized work areaPerform other related duties as assigned QualificationsEducation & ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum of 1 year experience in stick welding (SMAW) on steelBasic experience with MIG welding preferredExperience in fabrication or construction environment preferred Skills & CompetenciesAbility to perform safe, quality stick welds with guidanceFamiliarity with MIG welding processesAbility to read simple shop drawings and welding symbolsAttention to detail and commitment to safetyAbility to work effectively as part of a team Physical & Environmental Requirements (ADA-Compliant)Ability to stand and walk for extended periodsAbility to bend, stoop, reach, climb, and work in various positionsAbility to lift and move up to 50 pounds independentlyAbility to see and hear clearly, with or without corrective devicesManual dexterity to operate welding torches, grinders, and hand toolsTolerance for working in a non-climate-controlled environment with noise, sparks, fumes, and varying temperatures
