Project Controller

Company: Integral Engineering Group, LLC Location: Knoxville, Tennessee Job Type: Full-time Reports To: Project Manager Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Controller to join our dynamic engineering design firm. This role is critical in supporting project delivery through effective budget tracking, cost control, and financial forecasting. The Project Controller works closely with project managers and technical staff to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with client expectations. Key Responsibilities: Monitor and control project budgets, timelines, and scopes across multiple engineering design projects. Develop and maintain project cost reports, cash flow projections, and financial performance dashboards. Collaborate with project managers to establish project schedules, work breakdown structure(s) and milestones, tracking progress against these metrics. Assist in management of subcontractor contracts and project activities. Analyze variances between planned and actual costs and recommend corrective actions as needed. Prepare and review client billing packages, ensure accurate time and expense tracking, and assist with collections if required. Support and forecast resource planning by analyzing workload and availability against current and upcoming projects. Contribute to the improvement of internal project control processes and tools. Provide periodic project status reports and financial summaries to leadership and stakeholders. Assist with audits, financial reviews, and preparation of documentation for external parties. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business, technical or a related field. Strong knowledge of project accounting principles and budgeting practices; data analytics. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Deltek, or similar). Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working in a cross-functional team environment. Ability to adapt and thrive in a small firm setting where multitasking and flexibility are key. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening Must be a U.S. Person (citizen or lawful permanent resident), eligible for Security Clearance if needed. Preferred: Experience with Power BI, automation, AI tools, time-tracking systems and project ERP platforms. 2+ years of experience in project controls, preferably within an engineering, architecture, or construction firm.
