If you are a detail-oriented, hardworking Mechanical Engineer who is looking for a place to call home, we invite you to apply for this opening.Job DescriptionPosition Summary & ObjectiveThe Mechanical Engineer I is accountable for the mechanical design and performance of hydro turbine equipment. They are responsible for the development of cost-effective custom equipment designs and achievement of the budgeted costs at the final design stage. The Mechanical Engineer I will identify deficiencies in mechanical processes and develop improvements. This position will design and develop prototypes, use CAD, develop, initiate, and manage phases of project, and collaborate with Project Managers.Essential Functions Performed by the PositionMain ResponsibilitiesCommit to work under company's core values that include: a "One Team" mindset, open communication, continuous improvement, and a commitment to provide solutions to our customers.Responsible for the mechanical design and layout of custom hydro turbine equipment. Interface with complete powerhouse equipment scope to include generator, turbine, balance-of-plant equipment and civil structure as required.Perform classical stress calculations and finite element analyses on critical turbine components.Prepare structural analysis reports for presentation to internal and external customers.Produce CAD drawings and bill of materials for all new and rehabilitated components to include fabrications, castings, forgings, and machined components.Analyze various design requirements and recommend possible solutions or alternate constructions.Serve as the technical lead on low complexity projects with support from experienced engineers.Work under the direction of experienced engineers on complex and demanding projects.Conduct internal design reviews with multi-disciplinary teams.Support additional project requirements as needed for Project Management, Proposals, Procurement, Operations, and Field Service departments.Coordinate with Operations and Field Service departments to resolve technical problems that arise during manufacture or installation of equipment.Perform field testing and troubleshooting of turbine installations under the direction of experienced engineers.Satisfy ISO Quality Standards as it relates to the design functionAuthoritiesApproval of shop and field non-conformances and disposition of non-conformances with input from experienced engineers.QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAttention to detail, teamwork abilities, communication skills, and organizational skillsPossess a firm grasp on the industry as a whole and stay up to date on evolving trends in hydro power technologiesKnowledge of CADNumeracy and mathematics; Technical skills; Collaboration skills; Analytical skills; AdaptabilityCreativity; Drawing schematics, Critical Thinking; Time Management; Drafting SkillsRequired Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering requiredZero to three years' experienceLicenses or Certifications RequiredNoneAdditional InformationThe benefits of joining our teamBecause we seek to hire the best people, we work hard to provide benefits that make their lives better, so we offer a comprehensive benefit program which features:health coverage for you and your family through medical, dental and vision plansa 401(k) plan in with a generous company matchfinancial protection through disability, life, and accidental death & dismemberment insurance planstax advantages through flexible spending accounts that allow you to pay for specific health-care and dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollarsa generous paid time off program in which the benefits increase along with your tenure with the companyWhen you join our team, you do more than simply switch companies to progress your career.
