To learn more about the surrounding area, please visit: www.visitstmarysmd.comPosition BackgroundThe Data Acquisition and Processing (DAPS) team is a government run team that supports data collection efforts during electromagnetic pulse (EMP), Lightning, and Radio Frequency (RF) susceptibility testing at Naval Air Station Patuxent River Maryland. As a Software Developer on the DAPS team will support the development, validation, installation and integration proof-of-concept acquisition software to interface with both new and legacy Data Acquisition and Processing System (DAPS) hardware commercial off the shelf (COTS) products and databases at the Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) facility.A typical day as a Software Developer (DAPS)-Junior may include: Designs a Windows application that will serve as the new DAPS softwareUtilizes an Agile implementation processEmploys Agile methods using fixed-length Sprints encompassing requirements, design, development, testing and deploymentDelivers a finished and tested product at the end of each SprintUtilizes Agile methods such as SCRUM or DoD Agile standardDevelops, designs, documents and delivers a high-level design of the overall system architecture for a new Data Acquisition and Processing System (DAPS) using Agile implementation processes Attends daily internal discussions, preforms development work, conducts Sprint Review meetings/Sprint RetrospectiveProduces a complete high-level design element of the systemConducts a preliminary design review and systems requirements review of high-level designsCreates System Architecture documentationWorks with a team to develop all other documentation for this projectSupports the software development team in creating DAPS software that will:Communicate/Import the legacy DAPS Microsoft Access Structured Query Language (SQL) relational databaseInteract/Interface with the existing EG&G ODS-1500 and ODS-2200 Optical Data Link transceivers used at NAWCAD EMP facilityInterface for recording, playback, presentation, and post execution analysisIncorporate a new graphic user interface (GUI) to control software functionsCommunicate with Windows based systems that include oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and computersConform with approved designUses Python, Django, VS Code, Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, GitLab, MySQL or other IDEs/DBsMust-havesBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering: Degrees in Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace, Computer, Software Systems, Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering may qualify1 year of relevant work experienceExperience with scripting, database and programming in PythonStrong understanding of standard programming algorithms, design patterns and object-oriented software designThe ability to collaborate with customers (including engineers and technicians) to design, develop and deploy solutionsMinimum clearance required to apply (candidates who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be considered): N/AAdditional Accesses: The ability to obtain and maintain the DoD security clearance eligibility and/or additional security access requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position, as required by the contractDesired SkillsExperience with DjangoExperience with C++, Java and HTMLExperience using oscilloscopes and other RF measurement equipmentExperience developing software to collect data from measurement equipmentSecurity Clearance Requirement Disclaimer: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain all security clearances, interim security determinations, and/or other access authorizations required by the applicable contract(s).
