Job Title: Assistant Camp DirectorClassification: Seasonal/ResidentialSJ Riding Camp is searching for an Assistant Director to join our overnight camp leadership team. We are looking for an experienced camp professional who excels in creating relationships, can support the social-emotional needs of children, and can help young staff reach their full potential. This is a full-time/seasonal, on-site role located in Ellington, CT.Position Purpose and ScopeThe Assistant Director is responsible for helping the Camp Directors operate and implement a safe and high-quality camp program. They will support the goals of the camp and help to deliver a quality experience to the camp participants. The Assistant Director's main responsibilities include staff training, staff supervision and development, camper emotional well being, program supervision, and supporting the counselor-in-training program.Essential Job Functions● Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training● Supervise seasonal staff and provide guidance and support to encourage camper and staff well-being● Ensure all staff are following and enforcing all rules as well as fulfilling all expectations and their assigned duties● Conduct regular staff evaluations and provide in-season staff feedback and development● Demonstrate and teach SJ camp values to all campers and staff● Communicate with parents about camper needs● Support camper emotional well being through strong programming and staff training● Help develop and implement a strong counselor-in-training program● Assist the Directors with staff scheduling and supporting all programmingPrerequisites● Must pass background and criminal record checks● Valid driver’s license with a history of safe driving● CPR/First Aid Certification● Age 21+● Computer & data management skills (gsuite) and experience with camp management software (Campminder preferred)● Love children!Qualifications:● Minimum of 2 years in camp leadership: assistant or program director or equivalent including program management experience● College degree in early childhood education, child development, psychology or social work is preferred● Strong attention to detail and timeliness● Can demonstrate historical success in fostering the social-emotional development of both children and young staff● Ability to direct and supervise others effectively● Experience with or interest in horses is a bonus but not requiredWork Environment & Physical Requirements:This position requires the ability to listen to others, observe others’ actions, read text and information, comprehend instructions and manuals, and physical ability to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions.
