DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position focuses on operating, monitoring, and maintaining boiler plant equipment while overseeing an inmate work crew. The role supports safe, effective, and efficient boiler plant operations. As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Operation: Operate boiler systems and respond to normal and emergency conditions System Monitoring: Check gauges, meters, and sensing devices and make needed adjustments Maintenance Tasks: Complete routine and non-routine upkeep, as well as perform minor repairs Water Testing: Test boiler water chemistry, maintain accurate logs, and monitor supply inventories Inmate Supervision: Direct inmate workers, monitor movement, and maintain safety and security Housekeeping Duties: Keep the plant and assigned areas clean and perform daily inventories Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, 40 hours per week Work hours will be determined from the following shifts, with rotating days off: 1st shift: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM 2nd shift: 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM 3rd shift: 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Additional Requirements: Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
