Industrial Designer/Product Developer

Company We are K9 Sport Sack LLC (www.k9sportsack.com). Since 2012 we have been an integral and growing part of the Pet Carrier Industry, specifically the world’s foremost supplier of forward-facing backpack carriers. We have grown every year like clockwork and have reached another point where only the involvement of the right qualified individual will help us reach the next echelon. Job Overview: We are seeking a creative mind and capable hands to add to our product design and development team. The successful candidate will possess an ability to introduce new, innovative solutions to be driven through the developmental process. Workload includes handling anything/everything from initial “idea/brainstorming” phase, to prototyping/sampling, to final product launch. Will include sewing, 3D printing, 3D design, manufacturer communications, detail documentation/recording and working with other departments on product launches so related skills are prioritized. Workday will often be without administrative oversight, however, we are also a tight-knit group that collaborates often so we are looking for to add an autonomous self-starter that also works well with others when necessary to make us all better as a group. Will require occasional travel. Not extensive/overlong trips but a few domestic and international each year are expected. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or related field 2+ years of experience in related field Proven experience in product development and industrial design Preferred Qualifications/Skills: 2D and 3D CAD Proficiency (Adobe Illustrator and/or CLO preferred) Ability to clearly communicate ideas/concepts especially to non-native English speakers Microsoft Office Products Sewing ability/knowledge preferred Knowledge of textiles Strong organizational skills that include preparation, planning, execution and data analysis Dog owner/enthusiast Outdoor enthusiast Sought After Personal Traits: Thorough/Excellent Attention to Detail: This position falls apart when corners are cut, or shortcuts are taken. We need someone who can extemporize as needed but within official parameters and guidelines. Motivated/Self-Actualized/Autonomous: The Product Development Office is a standalone room in which you will have your own desk, tools, computer, etc. Sometimes others will be present, other times you will be on your own. We need someone with a demonstrable ability to make progress whether others are watching or not. Prioritizes Evidenced-Based Action/Uses Calculates Risks As Needed: As mentioned, as long as you maintain a proven record of autonomous progress, much of what you will do in a day’s time will be up to your discretion. However, we also operate within a bilateral system of: 1. Gathering the available evidence first and to the extent possible basing reactions on that provable data 2. Applying personal creativity thereafter. The successful candidate will display an ability to both use data accurately AND fill in leftover gaps with an innovative touch. Staff that have thrived in the past find the thrill of accomplishment more powerful/motivating than the fear of failure paralyzing/stymying. Provided the necessary homework has been done and the evidence gathered can be used to support your decision, you will be applauded for your efforts, even in the event of spectacular failure.
