This is a full-time position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.Position SummaryThe Medical Assistant will provide clinical support to pediatric providers and assist in delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced primary care setting. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with infants, children, adolescents, and their families while maintaining a professional, compassionate, and patient-centered approach.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesRoom patients and obtain accurate vital signs and medical historiesAdminister vaccines and other injections as ordered by the providerPerform point-of-care testing and document results appropriatelyAssist providers with minor in-office proceduresPrepare examination and treatment roomsSupport providers during well-child visits and sick-child visitsAssist with sports physicals, annual physicals, and preventive care appointmentsMaintain accurate and timely patient documentation within the electronic medical recordProvide patient and family education as directed by the providerFollow infection control, safety, and clinical protocolsPerform other clinical and administrative duties as assignedRequired QualificationsCertificationsCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Professionals from the American Heart Association required.Medical Assistant Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or American Medical Technologists (RMA) required within 90 days of employment to remain in the position.EducationGraduate of a Medical Assistant program accredited by one of the following:Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)Another school approved by the Department of EducationMedical Assistant Certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or American Medical Technologists (RMA) may be accepted in lieu of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.Preferred QualificationsPrevious experience in a pediatric or primary care setting preferredStrong communication and customer service skillsAbility to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environmentExperience With Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Systems PreferredJoin our team and help provide exceptional care to children and families in our community.This role works under the direction of a licensed health care professional and performs various clinical and administrative tasks for the assigned area. The Medical Assistant is expected to carry out the mission, vision, and values of Phoenix Children's. This position requires current and continuous certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or American Medical Technologists (RMA) in the field of Medical Assisting or the ability to acquire within 90 days of hire. Anyone hired prior to 11/30/2021 has one year from their date of hire to obtain their required Medical Assistant Certification.Position Duties Consistent with Medical Assistant education and under the direction of a licensed health care professional, the Certified Medical Assistant performs the following clinical responsibilities including but not limited to: Measures and records vital signs, growth parameters, medical histories, and signs and symptoms into the electronic health record Communicates patient related information to the licensed health care provider Performs electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, and other diagnostic testing within the Medical Assisting scope Collects laboratory specimens (including blood specimens) Performs point of care testing Prepares and administers medication at the direction of a licensed health care provider and adheres to all regulations, guidelines, and policies for medication labeling, security and storage, inventory management and disposal. Performs routine screening tests Assists the provider with exams and procedures Removes sutures, changes dressings, applies bandages and other first aid procedures Prepares and instructs patients about examinations, diagnostic tests, medications, special diets, and health maintenance Disposes of bio-hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA safety standards and hospital policies Demonstrates infection control standards related to hand washing and standard precautions including ensuring that all equipment in exam room is cleaned according to hospital policies Follows Phoenix Children's and OSHA safety rules and procedures at all times Upholds HIPAA regulations Administrative responsibilities include but are not limited to: Processes and communicates prescription refills to pharmacies as authorized by a licensed health care provider in accordance with regulations, policies and approved departmental protocols. Obtains prior authorizations for medication Obtains prior authorizations for DME Screens telephone calls and takes accurate clinical messages within the Medical Assisting scope of practice as well as in accordance with Phoenix Children's policies Returns patient calls with provider directed instructions Assists patients and providers in completing documentation and any otherpaperwork in which a provider is required to disclose and/or attest to Utilizes medication reconciliation tools within EHR. Cleans and restocks exam rooms In some clinics, may serve as a witness to cycle counting and wasting of controlled substances Follows appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct Remains up to date with certifications, company mandated training and professional development.
