Pay Range:Starts at $15.00 per hour, depending on experience Position Summary: Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Regional Sports Director, the Head Referee is responsible for enforcing the rules impartially and controlling the contest so the players are afforded a positive game experience. The Head Referee will display self-confidence and a professional attitude/dress while officiating. Essential Functions: Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility Models and puts into practice behavior that supports inclusion and diversity Ensure safe and risk free environment at all times while meeting the individual needs of the participants Arrive 15 minutes prior to game time in appropriate uniform to check the equipment and playing field/court Ensure that the timing devices are in working order and the game ball is properly inflated and appropriate for the age division Be available before each game to speak with the coaches and players Represent the YMCA and maintain good communication with coaches and players Meet with other officials to clarify responsibilities and interpretations of rules Keep a current copy of the rules where it is accessible at all times Bring coaches together beforeeach game to discuss the expectations ofsportsmanship from the players, parents/fans,and that of the coaches Run up and down the field to keep up with the play of the game and enforce rules Enforce the rules without partiality and maintain position on the field to make the best calls; take time to explain calls and be sure all signals are clearly visible to the players, coaches, and spectators, so they immediately understand each call Have the two opposing teams line up and shake hands, secure game ball, and make sure all game reports are completed and returned in to the appropriate place after the game Make eye contact with the assistant referee on all dead balls to ensure calls are made correctly; Give nonverbal signals when eye contact has been made Provide clarity of your signals by pointing in the appropriate direction and vary the volume/length of your whistle for certain calls Ensure safety at all times; provide general first aid with the coach on the field/court in the event of accident or injury; notify your supervisor immediately in the event of accident or injury Keep the score for each game and bring the score sheet to the YMCA tent immediately after the game(s) Carry red and yellow cards in a cardholder with score sheets and a whistle Attend staff meetings and training sessions Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends Minimum 16 years of age Prior referee experience and certification (e.g., TSSA, USSF certified in the current year) preferred No prior experience necessary, up to one years experience preferred Certifications Required: Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training Within 30 days of hire or before 1st shift with children (whichever comes first): CPR Pro/ First Aid/ AED While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.
