Controller

Position Details We are seeking a Controller who will perform all day-to-day Accounting and HR functions, and manage an Accounts Payable Coordinator. The Individual we hire will have the opportunity to work closely with the current retiring Controller, and assume all responsibilities once the transition is complete. This is a hands-on position, ideal for an individual who wants visibility and career development in a high-growth company. Handles daily accounting and cash management of the home builder. Oversees all accounting aspects of a newly formed commercial general contractor Manages working capital. Handles bi-weekly payroll and oversees payroll tax filings/reporting. Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Prepares bank draws for multiple projects monthly or as needed. Develop budgets for new housing projects. Supervises Accounts Payable and provides appropriate coaching. Ensures compliance with accounting and tax regulations. Analyzes current and past trends in key performance indicators, including all areas of revenue, cost of sales, expenses and capital expenditures. Manages online banking, wire transfers, and monthly bank reconciliations for multiple entities. Completes quarter-end close process for all entities. Prepare quarterly consolidated financial statements. Reviews and processes closing statements for all home sales. Reviews monthly rental activity reports from outside Management Company. Oversees all HR functions including insurance and 401k administration. Manages all aspects of company insurance, including but not limited to Builder's Risk, Workers' Compensation, and General Liability. Partners with outside Tax Accountants to ensure accurate and timely completion of all business income tax returns, taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes. Professional Qualifications & Characteristics Bachelor's degree in accounting (preferred), finance, or a related field Certified Public Accountant (CPA) active license strongly preferred Tax experience strongly preferred Ideal candidate would have a minimum of 7 years of experience Experience in the construction and/or homebuilding industry Experience in small to midsize organizations Experience with multi-entity organizations and entity combinations Experience with Union payroll and benefits procedures Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel required.
