Role Overview:
As a Diesel Mechanic, you will handle the diagnosis and repair of heavy-duty trucks and emergency vehicles. Your role involves interacting professionally with customers, performing repairs, and maintaining equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnose and Repair: Identify and resolve issues with heavy-duty trucks and emergency vehicles, including diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests to determine vehicle conditions, identify worn or damaged parts, and perform necessary repairs and maintenance.
Customer Communication: Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) via phone and computer, providing updates and explanations about repair status.
Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance tasks such as hose, pump, and ladder testing to prevent future issues.
Vehicle Performance: Verify vehicle performance through driving tests and adjustments to controls and systems.
Equipment Installation: Install new equipment on apparatus before delivery.
Stay Updated: Participate in ongoing training to keep up with industry trends and enhance your technical skills.
Qualifications/Skills:
Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
CDL: Class A or B CDL (preferred but not required).
Technical Skills: Mechanical knowledge, including diesel engine repair, hydraulic systems, and basic electrical systems.
Diagnostics: Proficiency in diesel engine diagnostics.
Customer Interaction: Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers and CSRs.
Physical Requirements: Ability to work in various weather conditions, noisy environments, and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs. and climbing ladders.
Education and Experience:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Certifications: ASE and EVT certifications (preferred but not required).
Experience: 1+ year of experience in diesel engine repair, with a preference for those with emergency vehicle repair experience.
Preferred Skills:
Experience: 3+ years in heavy-duty truck repair.
Certifications: ASE and EVT certifications.
Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with fire industry parts and repairs.
ERP Systems: Experience with NetSuite or Oracle Platform ERP (a plus).
Compensation & Benefits:
Pay: $17.00 - $27.00 per hour, depending on experience.
