This is professional work in the operation, maintenance andrepair of the Authority's water and wastewater treatment plant facilities and otherutility facilities, and ensuring that all work and operations are in conformance withapplicable laws, regulations and ordinances; performs other duties as assigned.Ability to obtain Class IV Wastewater license or Class IV Water license from theVirginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation for Waterworksand Wastewater Works within 18 months of employment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned or scheduled.* Operates and maintains the Authority's water and wastewater treatmentsystem facilities as required by a Class IV Operator.* Requisitions materials and supplies.* Performs maintenance as required and directs contracted maintenance work.* Maintains records and prepares complex reports.* Subject to 24-hour call and may work varied shifts as assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be madeto enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.* Good knowledge of the principles and practices of water and wastewatertreatment plant operations.* Thorough knowledge of materials, methods, techniques and equipment utilizedin water and wastewater operations and maintenance.* Ability to perform operations and maintenance at water and wastewater facilitiesincluding treatment plant and pumping stations as required by a Class IVOperator.* Ability to prepare reports and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.* Ability to work with minimal supervision.* Ability to work safely and obey all safety rules.* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with coworkers,other Water Authority departments and the general public.* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating andmaintenance instructions, maps and procedure manuals.* Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnishedin writing, oral or diagram form.* Ability to work alone or in a team environment.* Must possess and maintain a good work ethic with a strong emphasis on goodattendance, reporting to work on time, completing job assignments in a timelymanner, maintaining a good work attitude, performing all job duties as assignedand/or scheduled.* Basic knowledge in the use of hand tools, sockets, wrenches, etc.* Ability to work on rotating shifts. (To be determined)EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEGraduation from high school or GED equivalent. Supplemental course work inenvironmental studies, chemistry, sewage and water treatment, or other relatedareas is desired but not required. No previous experience required.CERTIFICATE, LICENSE, REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS* Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license or have the ability to obtain onewithin 60 days of employment date. No more than six (6) demerit points ondriving record if required to drive Water Authority vehicles.* Must be able to obtain a Class IV Water and/or Class IV Wastewater license fromthe Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation forWaterworks and Wastewater Works within eighteen (18) months ofemployment.PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOBThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be metby an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities toperform the essential functions.* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required towalk, stand, and sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands andarms; talk and hear.* Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus. Ifcorrective lenses are noted on driver's license, the lenses must be worn whenoperating Authority vehicles.* Repetitive movement using equipment is involved.* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required tostoop, kneel, crouch, bend, climb (ladders/stairs), balance or crawl.* Employee must be able to stand for an extended amount of time at the jobsite.* Employee must be physically able to walk several miles during the day.* Employee must be physically able to regularly reach overhead.* Employee must regularly push/pull up to 30 pounds.* Employee must regularly lift, carry and/or move up to 30 pounds andoccasionally 50 pounds.
