Construction Superintendent – Job Description (California)Position Title: Construction Superintendent Location: California Industry: Commercial / Multifamily / Healthcare / Education Ground-Up Construction Reports To: Project Manager / Project ExecutivePosition SummaryThe Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities from project startup through closeout. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with plans, specifications, building codes, and company quality standards. The Superintendent serves as the primary field leader and coordinates subcontractors, vendors, inspections, and site logistics throughout the construction lifecycle. Key ResponsibilitiesManage day-to-day field operations for commercial, multifamily, mixed-use, or tenant improvement construction projects.Develop and maintain project schedules, sequencing, and short-interval planning.Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and field personnel to maintain workflow and productivity.Enforce OSHA and company safety standards to maintain a safe jobsite environment.Conduct daily site walks to monitor progress, quality, and compliance with plans and specifications.Lead subcontractor coordination meetings, safety meetings, and progress updates.Review drawings, RFIs, submittals, and construction documents to proactively identify and resolve field issues.Ensure all work complies with California building codes, ADA/FHA requirements, and jurisdictional regulations.Manage inspections, punch lists, quality control procedures, and project closeout activities.Coordinate jobsite logistics including staging, deliveries, temporary utilities, and equipment usage.Maintain project documentation including daily reports, schedules, manpower logs, and safety records.Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Owners, Architects, Engineers, and consultants to ensure successful project delivery. Qualifications5+ years of experience as a Superintendent in commercial, healthcare, education, or multifamily construction.Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, scheduling, and field operations.Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings.Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar construction management software.Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.OSHA 30 certification preferred.Experience with ground-up, podium, Type III/V, or tenant improvement projects preferred.Knowledge of California building codes, ADA, and OSHA regulations.Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field preferred but not required. Preferred ExperienceCommercial, healthcare, education, hospitality, retail, or multifamily construction experience.Experience managing projects ranging from $50M–$100M+.Familiarity with seismic retrofit, concrete, wood-frame, or mixed-use developments preferred.
