At our core, we are Advanced Energy – powering the future, together.Position SummaryAdvanced Energy is currently seeking Electrical Design Engineering Interns and Co-Ops to support development activities across our North American design sites. Successful candidates will carry out their internships at Advanced Energy's sites in Colorado, Minnesota, Massachusetts, or California. They will work with an experienced engineering team, closely collaborating on the development of high-performance, precision, efficient and cost-effective power conversion, metrology, or controls solutions. Only post-graduate candidates will be considered for summer and school-year internships. Candidates should be actively pursuing degree programs at one of the following institutions: University of Colorado, Colorado State University, University of Minnesota, Northeastern University, San Jose State University, or Stanford University.ResponsibilitiesCandidates may perform and support design activities related to any of the following:Active participant in a core team to meet schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction goalsAssisting in the development, testing, and de-bugging of prototype power supply unitsAnalyze test data and reports against functional and performance specificationsInterfacing with internal departments to ensure cost and schedule goals are metCircuit design of analog and digital circuits, EMI filters, and power circuitsDevelopment and implementation of control algorithmsDesign and analysis of magnetic componentsModeling and simulation of devices, circuits or systems using commercial or proprietary toolsWork EnvironmentLocation: Fort Collins, CO Environment: in office and lab environment.QualificationsRequired:Ability to work in a lab environment debugging circuits and evaluating product spec compliance using tools including oscilloscopes, power meters, multimeters, logic analyzers, and firmware interface toolsDemonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based design and analysis tools, working knowledge of MS Office SuiteAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility to meet schedule requirements and define priorities without direct supervisionPreferred:Familiarity with CAD tools, for schematics, analysis, and modeling/simulationHistory of firmware programming for embedded systems is a plusAbility to work with serial communication protocols such as UART, SPI and I2CBasic knowledge of Spice simulation and engineering programing scripts such as Matlab or Python.EducationCandidates working towards MS or Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering. Preference will be given to those with a Power Electronics and/or Controls focus, but other fields consistent with Advanced Energy's needs will also be considered GPA > 3.25CompensationAs required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
