Test Stand Maintenance Technician

Summary: The Electrical & Mechanical Test Stand Maintenance Technician is responsible for the preventative maintenance, repair, modification, and safe operation of generator test stands and Ram Air Turbine (RAT) wind tunnel systems. This role ensures test equipment operates reliably, safely, and in compliance with engineering, quality, and regulatory standards. The technician promotes a strong safety culture, maintains high operational standards, and supports continuous improvement across all test assets. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: •Promote a safety first mindset in all activities, ensuring adherence to company safety policies, lockout/tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, and environmental regulations. •Identify, report, and mitigate safety hazards associated with test stands, wind tunnels, and supporting infrastructure. •Ensure all equipment meets applicable regulatory, quality, and engineering standards prior to operation. •Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on generator test stands, Ram Air Turbine wind tunnels, and other hydraulic test stands to ensure reliability and availability. •Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems including relays, motor drives, power supplies, safety circuits, fuses and PCD boards. •Troubleshoot control panels, sensors, motors, drives, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems. •Maintain detailed maintenance records, logs, and work instructions. •Rewire and upgrade test stands, control cabinets, and instrumentation systems in accordance with electrical schematics and engineering drawings. •Read and interpret electrical diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation. •Install, modify, and commission electrical and mechanical components to support evolving test requirements. •Provide technical input for test stand upgrades, obsolescence management, and reliability improvements. •Support test stand configuration changes and equipment upgrades / modifications. •Support test operations by ensuring machines are available, calibrated, and operating within specification. •Work closely with engineering, test, and quality teams to resolve equipment issues. •Maintain high standards of workmanship, cleanliness, and organization in test areas. •Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action for equipment failures. •Recommend improvements to maintenance processes, equipment reliability, and safety practices. •Support standardization and documentation of maintenance procedures. •Contribute to uptime, efficiency, and long term asset health. •Regular, predictable attendance is required. •Must be willing to work overtime as necessary. Physical Demands: •Ability to work in a manufacturing test cell with exposure to noise, vibration, fluids, and temperature variations. •Sitting 35%, Walking 10%, Standing 40%, Lifting 15% (up to 25lbs alone, then with a partner/machine). Job Requirements Basic Qualifications: •Technical degree in Manufacturing or Electrical Fields and / or equivalent of 2 years experience in electrical, mechanical, or electro mechanical technology. •Strong hands on experience with electrical systems, including wiring, controls, motors, and instrumentation •Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems •Strong understanding of preventive maintenance practices •Ability to work safely around high voltage systems and rotating machinery •Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings •Teamwork and continuous improvement mindset Knowledge/Skills: •Time management and task prioritization. •Strong troubleshooting skills in both electrical and mechanical systems. •Proficiency reading electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation. •Experience with PLCs, HMIs, motor controls, and industrial instrumentation. •Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems. •Basic computer skills (CMMS, data entry, Microsoft Office). •Able to read/write English. Preferred Qualifications: •Experience with aerospace test stands, generators, or wind tunnel systems. •Background in MRO, manufacturing, or test environments. •Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, data acquisition systems, and test instrumentation. •Knowledge of ISO, AS/EN, or aerospace quality systems. •IPC J-STD-001 certified. •IPC/WHMA-A-620E certified.
