It establishes administrative and technical policies, guidelines, and best management practices to ensure mosquito control programs are safe and effective.Job Description:CLASSIFICATION: FIELD BIOLOGISTGENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:1. Will coordinate and/or carry out all research projects under the direction of the Staff Biologist/Director of Operations.2. Prepare reports and presentations as directed by the Staff Biologist/Director of Operations.3. Will perform field inspections in the area of larval and adult mosquito surveillance among the towns in the CMMCP service area.4. Will assist the Staff Entomologist with the operation of the larval and adult mosquito surveillance program as directed by the Staff Biologist /Director of Operations.5. Will assist the Wetland Project Coordinator with the survey of wetlands and surrounding land to determine the legitimacy of proposed or requested ditch maintenance and restoration projects as directed by the Staff Biologist.6. Will assist the Wetland Project Coordinator with the creation of restoration proposals, permits, site plans, maps and all other relevant documents as requested as directed by the Staff Biologist/Director of Operations.7. Will coordinate the aerial larvicide program in cooperation with the Wetland Project Coordinator and other CMMCP staff as directed by the Staff Biologist/Director of Operations.8. Will assist the Wetland Project Coordinator in restoration projects working with beaver mitigation and/or invasive plant species as directed by the Staff Biologist/Director of Operations.9. To assist in any other office or field tasks that may arise.SKILLS REQUIRED:• Must be proficient at map reading and interpretation.• Must be able to comfortably and positively work with the public, local and state agencies, and to acquire a long term, working relationship with local & state officials.• Must be proficient in the creation of research reports and all other related materials.• Familiarity and understanding with basic computer skills, including Internet protocols.• Technical writing and word processing skills; ability to create new forms and reports.• Proficiency in grant writing• Proficiency in spreadsheet and database management.• Knowledge and proficiency of GIS and GPS systems, ESRI products, software, hardware and related procedures.• Ability to ascertain wetlands delineation in restoration project areas.• Ability to identifying obligatory and facultative species of wetland plants and aquatic insects as well as invasive species found in local wetland habitats.• Proficiency in larval and adult mosquito identification to species.• Familiarity with 35mm and digital cameras and their operation.• Capability to use survey equipment and soil sampling devices.• Ability to learn and implement all State and Federal laws regarding this position.• Knowledge in basic mosquito biology and control techniques.• To be licensed & certified by the Mass. Pesticide Bureau in Category 47 (Mosquito & Biting Fly), subject to current state regulations.• Capacity to use available resources to the best ability.• Desire to learn new skills to better perform tasks in this position.PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:Technical experience evaluating environmental effects on wetlands, and a working knowledge of mosquito biology.Knowledge in one of the physical, biological or environmental sciences; wetlands science, environmental engineering, entomology, or a closely related discipline (often acquired through the completion of an accredited Bachelor of Science program).Salary range is $30.00 to $34.00 per hour.Qualifications:
