About the CompanyTerra Energy is a fast-growing residential solar installation company operating across Florida and Texas. As we scale our operations, we are building an in-house engineering team to support plan review, inspection services, and installation quality assurance — allowing us to move faster, maintain higher standards, and deliver exceptional outcomes for our customers and installation crews.About the RoleWe are seeking a Florida-licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with hands-on experience in residential solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and residential electrical to join our team as the cornerstone of our in-house engineering function. This is a unique opportunity to build and shape a program from the ground up, serving three primary functions:Private Party Plan Review (PPR): Review and stamp residential solar PV permit packages on behalf of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), ensuring code compliance, structural adequacy, and electrical correctness.Private Party Inspections (PPI): Conduct final inspections of completed residential solar installations via live video call with on-site installers or by reviewing structured photo documentation packages. Issue inspection approvals in accordance with applicable Florida Building Code requirements.Internal Quality Assurance (QA): Develop and enforce Installation quality standards across all Terra Energy residential solar projects. Identify recurring deficiencies, provide feedback to field crews, and continuously improve internal checklists, SOPs, and training materials. ResponsibilitiesPlan Review (PPR) Review residential solar PV permit packages for structural, electrical, and code complianceStamp and sign engineered drawings for submittal to Florida AHJsEnsure designs comply with NEC, Florida Building Code, ASCE 7, and applicable utility interconnection requirementsCoordinate with our design team to resolve plan check corrections and resubmittalsMaintain familiarity with permitting requirements across Florida jurisdictions, including SolarAPP+ participating countiesInspections (PPI) Conduct real-time inspections via video call with field installation crewsReview structured photo evidence packages as an alternative to live inspections where permitted by the AHJVerify proper installation of racking, modules, conduit, wiring, disconnects, inverters, and energy storage systemsIssue inspection approval or document deficiencies clearly and promptlyMaintain inspection records, logs, and AHJ-required documentationQuality Assurance Develop and maintain internal QA checklists aligned with NEC, FBC, and manufacturer installation requirementsAudit completed installations through photo review and periodic site visitsIdentify patterns in installation deficiencies and lead corrective action programsCollaborate with operations and field leadership to deliver installer training and feedbackContribute to continuous improvement of permit package templates, one-line diagrams, and design standards QualificationsActive Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license — Electrical discipline required; Civil/Structural a plusMinimum 3 years of experience designing or reviewing residential solar PV systems in FloridaStrong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), Florida Building Code (FBC), and ASCE 7 wind loadingExperience with residential electrical systems, including service upgrades, load calculations, and interconnectionFamiliarity with Florida AHJ permitting processes and inspection requirements across multiple jurisdictionsAbility to perform remote video-based and photo-based inspections with clarity and confidenceProficiency with solar design software (Aurora, Helioscope, or equivalent)Strong communication skills — able to effectively coach field installers and interface with AHJ officials Required SkillsNABCEP PV Installation Professional (PVIP) or PV Technical Sales (PVTS) certificationExperience as a Florida-approved private provider for plan review or inspectionsExperience with SolarEdge, Enphase, or Hoymiles inverter platformsKnowledge of Florida utility interconnection requirementsFamiliarity with energy storage systems (battery backup) in residential applicationsPrior experience building or managing an in-house engineering functionWhat Success Looks LikeAccurate and compliant permit packages submitted efficiently.Consistent and reliable inspection approvals.Improved installation quality and reduced field deficiencies.Clear engineering standards and scalable QA processes.Strong collaboration between engineering, operations, and field teams.In SummaryThis role is for someone who enjoys building, improving, and leading technical excellence in residential solar.If you’re excited about shaping engineering processes, improving quality standards, and having a direct impact on company growth—this is that kind of opportunity.Recruitment ProcessInitial Contact (HR) – Quick introduction and role overviewHR Interview – Experience and overall fitHiring Manager Interview – Technical and operational deep diveOffer Letter – Final offer and next steps
