This role will focus on automation systems, process control optimization, HMI development, troubleshooting, and implementation of control strategies that improve uptime, quality, and operational efficiency.This is a hands-on engineering opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and enjoys solving complex technical problems while partnering with operations and maintenance teams.The company has made significant investments in this facility, which now serves as a key controls systems hub within the organization. The site has experienced strong operational performance and sustained profitability in recent years, creating long-term growth opportunities for engineering talent.Due to a combination of team growth and planned succession needs, the organization is adding to its Controls Engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established group with a strong mix of experienced and developing technical talent.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement automation and process control strategies to improve product quality, reduce downtime, and lower operating costsConfigure, maintain, and optimize distributed control systems (DCS), PLCs, and HMI platformsTroubleshoot control system issues and provide technical support to maintenance and production teamsCreate and maintain technical documentation including:Control schematicsOperational narrativesLoop sheetsSoftware backupsTroubleshooting proceduresLead or support startup and commissioning of new automation systems and process improvementsCoordinate project execution with maintenance, operations, and outside contractorsSupport continuous improvement initiatives across production systemsEnsure backup, disaster recovery, and system reliability standards are maintainedRequired QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering5+ years of controls engineering or automation experience (strong candidates with 4+ years will be considered)Minimum 2 years of experience in a process manufacturing environmentStrong experience with ABB 800xA and/or Honeywell TDC 3000 control systemsExperience with PLC platforms such as:Allen BradleyGESiemensExperience managing all phases of automation projects from design through startupTechnical Skills RequiredWindows operating systemsDisaster recovery systemsIndustrial networkingOSIsoft PIGE Plant ApplicationsSQL ServerVMWareIndustrial communication protocols including:OPCModbus RTUTCP/IPSerial communicationsFunctional knowledge of instrument-based control loops and field instrumentationPreferred TraitsStrong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skillsAbility to balance short-term priorities with long-term objectivesStrong communication skills with cross-functional teamsSelf-starter with strong organizational skillsContinuous learner with a desire to grow technicallyAbility to work effectively within a multigenerational team environmentWork EnvironmentIndustrial manufacturing setting with exposure to moving equipment, noise, humidity, dust, and varying plant conditionsMust be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionallyAbility to stand, walk, climb, and work in active plant environments as neededCompensation / BenefitsCompetitive compensation package, annual bonus opportunity, full benefits, and long-term career growth opportunity within a stable manufacturing organization.
